I had make a BIG mistake yesterday night about 8PM. I erroneously deposited a cheque without hubby's signature. It's for his credit card payment which is due soon. Fortunately hubby noticed it immediately from the receipt that the check was not signed ! I went to the bank with hubby this morning and waited for the bank to open business for the day. We met with the officer and was ask to wait. We waited for two hours for the authorized personnel to retrieve the check for hubby to sign and he was kind to help us re-bank in the cheque. Immediately, I felt the weight of a big rock rolled off my shoulder. I am now at peace to go on with my day with joy as usual... Had my hubby did not notice it, we would need to wait for more than a week for the return cheque and his credit card will be overdued by then. Have you ever experience any incidence that disturb your mind where you could not go on your day in peace?

hi emily7339, i'm glad to hear that everything is fine now. i'm not sure but i think there would be a penalty charges too for depositing a cheque without signature (once the cheque is returned to you). it's good that both of you realised it early and took immediate action to rectify it.

There are countless things that happen in everyone's life that give them sleepless nights and that includes me! This may seem simple but I was not sure if my gardener had closed the garden tap before leaving and that gave me a sleepless night. When I woke up in the morning I noticed that he had in fact closed the tap!

Oh! You had yourself worry unnecessarily, which in fact you could have a good sleep . You should have wake up to go and have a look just to make sure it is closed. Then you could have a peaceful sleep through out the night

You mean to say if I could, I wouldn't? We never venture into the garden at nights.

I used to be bothered by my brother in law a lot when I was still working at his Pharmacy. He would call me late at night and ask for the box of medicine or receipts which are just beside his table but he would tell me that he could not find it. He would be really raising his voice on the phone that makes me even more irritated. So I would not be able to sleep well thinking that i might have misplaced it. So what i would do is to come to work really early and upon seeing the things that he was looking for, I would like to hit him with it! But I never did. But he knows how irritated I am.

That is really bad of him . I am so sorry for you that you were always bothered by your brother in law and not able to sleep well. It is sad that he did it purposely . But why had he behaved that way? I hope you will be able to find another job and not work for him...are you still with him up to today?

Oh heavens! That could have been bad and caused late charges on the credit card bill. Good that your husband noticed that. I did something similar. I forgot to put a stamp on a very important envelope. I just thought it was a 'no stamp necessary envelope'. I wasn't paying attention. It could have slowed up an already slow process. The postman didn't take it and left it for me to put a stamp on it. So it went out the next day.

Hi PQ just remembering when I first came here I was so careful to write the correct date and pharmacy name and the correcct amount of the bill b ut I forgot the most important part I forgot to sign my name on the check. So of course I got it back with a note asking me to please sign it and send it back so they could deposit it and credit me.so I gave it to the med person who gave it to the pharmacy delivery person who came each morning to deliver meds to us. So they got it back that same day.

Hi PQ, Fortunately my noticed it immediately when he took a look at the receipt. If otherwise I will cause him to have a bad record on late payment for his credit card. I am glad and relieve it was all rectified . I am glad to hear the postman did notice it was without stamp and leave it for you to put a stamp on. Hi Hatley, You also experienced without signing your check . Fortunately they didn't bank in your check for clearance .

To be honest I would not call this a big mistake, also I would not take all that trouble and waste so much time for a simple thing like that. This besides of the fact nobody would be able to find that cheque back anyway. Since we don't have cheques in the first place since 20 years or longer anymore but also at the time we still had them you had to send them by post. So drop the envelope into the mailbox. By now everybody is e-banking and if you are allowed to have a credit card at all the company will take the amount you need to pay each month from your bank account automatically.

Nice to hear that you no longer have to transac using the cheque. That would be very convenient . I do have other credit card pay through e-banking. But, my hubby's is not. That's why we are using the cheque payment for his . We are able to retrieve it due to the bank has not started processing the deposited cheques this morning. So, they have no problem to retrieve for us. I am glad it's been rectified. Thank you for your participation !

During my undergraduate admission, I forgot to take my School leaving certificate and conduct certificate. They told me that without those you cannot get admission. I was shocked because it was 100 miles away and there wasn't enough time. However, one kind admission executive made an undertaking and convinced those others to allow some time and they allowed 2 days. I never knew that man. But at least my admission was not cancelled.

Hi there Emily7339! I am always bothered by mistakes that I committed and things that I forget. You know that nagging feeling that you get when you think you forgot something and can't remember what it was, when you forget something that you were about to say and when you forget what you were supposed to do? The latest and BIGGEST mistake that I committed when I erroneously sent a text message complaining about my boss which I was supposed to send to my mother but ended up sending it to none other but my boss. It was clear that I was talking about him and he even sent me my text message back. I was so embarrassed that I did not want to go back to work the next day.

Bank's have standing orders and they are digital too. I felt that there's another lesson you need to learn here. You need to understand the system of your bank entirely to help you out on odd situations like this one. It is obvious that the both of you do not have it. You can always call up the card center being that sometimes your current account and card issuing bank may be different to notify them of your unsigned check which you intend to make payment with. They can always trace that check for you to void it while you make out another check or arrangement like electronic transfer to pay the bill. Also, at that hour before you went to bed since card centers are opened 24/7/365. I don't know if your country is actively into environment friendly campaigns because if it is then I am sure they would discourage check writings if you can help it. You can always make a certain amount payable standing order with the bank for your credit cards where anything within that limit will be fully paid on the due date of the bill's statement. This will make your job much easier where you will just have to ensure the funds are sufficient in your accounts, pay the difference electronically and most of all, never late on the payment. It would make your card usage easier when you have several cards. You can simply spread out your entire month's expenses over a few cards and still be free from worries of making punctual payments. These electronic facilities are there to help you and you would only have yourself to blame when you do not use them. Try it, you will appreciate the conveniences it brings.

My hubby will leave all financial matters for me to handle. You have a good suggestions on bank standing order. I do have some bank standing orders for bills payment and other credit cards but except this one . I do not really trust the bank card center here and feel more comfortable to personally see the bank officer to get this problem solve before it is too late. And I am glad I did . Sometimes when I got some queries with the bank, I will call the call centre and they will put me to a long session of machine talk and sometime the line will be cut off before I get to talk to any cssv personnel . I appreciated your sharings very much!

Initially I told the bank officer that I want to made stop payment but was told to go back to the home branch to do it and this branch is situated far away from our house (My hubby open that account while he was working there last time) . So, we decided to wait for the retrieval of the check instead. I am glad it was rectified accordingly . Thank you for sharing your experience !

Well, this is indeed a horrible and stressful experience having to made checks with wrong figures and insufficient funds as well. To be honest with you, I did experience both the above in the past year . Resulting my hubby reveived a warning letter from the bank for insufficient funds. This was because I made his check out and forgot to transfer the funds into that account . And the bank charged him for penalty too. I was so sorry for that

That's easily done, many of us can do this when we are distracted, or tired, or our concentration wavers, but at least you managed to rectify your mistake, not too much harm done and you realized it before it was too late. I have often laid in bed at night worrying about things that I haven't done, I know I won't be able to sleep, so I go and make sure that I've done it, or at least written it down, so I can do it as soon as I get up in the morning, otherwise it's swimming around in my head and I can't shut it off to sleep.

I worked in Banking for many years and I know everyone makes mistakes, so whenever I make a mistake I fix it as soon as possible. Even though most transactions take place with machines, somewhere there is a person involved and thatbank person always is thankful to correct a mistake as soon as possible. Blessings

I had an incident awhile back. The elderly gentleman that I take care of wrote me a check. I went to the bank and cashed it. later, the bank called and the guy forgot to sign it. The bank was great even if they were in error too but it was one of those things. Normally I look at the checks but I didn't that day. I sure do now.

Glad you were able to do, but you have to realize if it was for your account out of your checking account most banks will just go ahead and take care of it for you. Because if someone got your checks they wouldn't be paying your bills.

When I met the officer the next morning, I was told to wait for the returned check which will be more than a week later. I could NOT afford to wait for it so that's why I pleaded with another officer to see if I could take back my check and get it signed. Fortunately this officer agreed and we were asked to wait for the authorised personnel to open the check deposit machine so that we could retrieve our check. And I am much relieved after all been rectified by waiting almost two hours. It was all worth waiting as I could then carry on my days in peace and joy.... Thanks for your sharing !

We are all bound to make mistakes and we just cannot do away with it. Sometimes the effect do affect us in such a way that we feel so embarrassed by it. I was once texting my friend telling her about my marital woes regarding my husband not giving me much attention because he has been preoccupied with a lot of things in his work. I mistakenly sent these messages to none other than my husband! I was just surprised when he texted me back asking: "Do we have a problem here?" I did not know what to say and when he got home, he started making some emotional statements that really hit me so hard. I just could not take back those complaints I said...we felt both quiet for quite sometime and then later on had the chance to explain to him my deepest sentiments.
