honestly, do you believe in our automated election system?

my mom doesn't trust the PCOS machines. she still prefers the counting of votes to be manual. according to her, the whole automated system is still operated by humans so there's really no proof that the tally of votes are not tampered.
i know the elderly are quite doubtful and reluctant about technology. but this is a serious matter. COMELEC or the government should take care of the people's votes and make sure they are counted accurately.

I think through automated elections, the risk of cheating is lesser compared to doing the manual casting of votes. And its much more efficient when it comes to counting of votes. Although there is still no assurance that the elections will be fair and clean. But at least through automated machines, this is one step towards a, hopefully cleaner and better elections.

What's the point of doubting anyways, the senate did it's best to lesser the cheating and not to mention one person fought for this when it was just a bill. how long before we could start having confidence in our votes. we always have doubts and always will, when are we gonna have a little bit of trust on those who think can make a difference.

the counting is definitely faster. but my problem is with the source code. does it count correctly? i mean, are votes really counted for the right candidate?

That's the reason why the COMELEC conducts mock elections -- to determine whether the machines are working well and produces "accurate" results when it comes to counting the votes. Although I'm not really sure exactly how it works but definitely it's more accurate than counting it manually.
And as LetranKnights said, we will always have doubts, especially with the kind of society we're living in today. I guess the best thing to do is to vote for the right people that is based on platform, track record and credibility, not popularity.

I do not know how reliable the results are but the only thing that impresses me about it is the quickness the counting can be done the lesser the results of the votes could be tampered. I believe there are still flaws but manual counting of votes has more flaws and is more prone to cheating since it is done by human who could be tempted to be bribed when the counting is done.
Although I am not saying the PCOS cannot be tampered at all but it needs to have knowledge on how to tinker the programming of the machine. So if this will be done the only responsible persons to do this would be comelec and the smartmatic because they are supposed to be the only ones who knows the program and they are responsible for it not to be hacked and tampered.

Anything that is unknown will always be subjected to doubts but so far the last presidential election was counted swiftly and the results released fast that no one was able to manipulate the counting and there was less protest since they could not find anything wrong with the system. Even the current administration at that time could not really make some moves like they use to in the past elections.
I think the faster the counting is the better since those sneaky politicians are looking for these opportunities to slip in their illegal ballots to be counted. But in the present system there would be no slippage since only the ones that were inserted in the machine are counted and after that the count is final already. In the manual counting after it is manually counted others may influence the counter to insert some ballots that are bogus to favor some politicians.

i think the presidential elections had less complaints and doubts because the results were acceptable. there have been surveys conducted before the elections that aquino and binay would win the elections.

Isn't it that it is a similar machine used in The US during their elections as well? But I wonder why their elections is not as "dirty" as ours. Coz really, with people who have evil minds, no matter what kind of system we are going to use, if there are people who can be bribed, everything can still be manipulated.

I agree with you. Whatever system we use, as long as there are people who are selfish and evil. nothing will change. I just can't understand why some people are not afraid of the consequences they may face after doing something.

It's because of greed for MONEY AND POWER. These politicians just think that being in one of the posts is the most lucrative business in the country,

Call me stupid or naive but I do trust those PCOS machines that are used in the previous election and also the mode of casting votes this coming may. I find it very convenient as for the voters and also for the counting of votes.

The procedure of electrote vote counting by machine is though a very easy method because mechine cannot make mistake and machine help us to work in shoert time what ever your mom said she isnot rely on this method because of afraid of human error or tampered ,but as you know thayt any one will to do tampering is easy to do manualy

i have my doubts, and i am thinking it is impossible that it is 100% sure and pure. There are many tests involved in a roll out of systems much more for such with huge responsibilities. and i think there are just too little time in the implementation of this. i doubt that it is problem free.

Hello iluvusabado, The PCOS lowers the risk of cheating in the elections,it doesn't really mean zero cheating in the elections. compare to the manual elections which was dangerous to school areas that are vulnerable to gunmen attacked specially when it's being transported into it's destination. I believe in the PCOS because Gordon who initiated it fought for this BILL and believed that we didn't deserved to be cheated on. the problem now is vote buying because there are still relentlessly selling their votes.
@iluvusabado (2560)

well, i agree on the vote buying part because the PCOS machines couldn't detect which votes are bought or not. and the fact that the lives of teachers and more people are less in danger because they don't really have to transport the ballot boxes like before.
i also trust Gordon. but i really think the system is not cheating free.

I think i like it automated because the result is fast.
Just like last year, it was fast. In a matter of a few days, it was over.

I trust the PCOS system not only for its convenience for the voting public but the added security with respect to our votes. Almost all countries are using the automated system since it is technology. All those talk about the counting being manipulated has no basis. We now live in a generation of innovations and it is only right to do away with the manual counting of votes where potential for cheating is quite high. Oftentimes, our elderly parents are against change especially new technology but it rests upon us to do the explanation that this is a more secured and fast process of election. They have been so used to the manual system where it takes months before they can proclaim the winning candidates. The speed with which the ballots are counted reduces the possibility of cheating.

i also don't want to go back to the manual voting. it's like the dark age. but i don't want to sacrifice the truthfulness of the system just to make the counting fast.

ya pcos are definitely not trustable, in India even though people protested against it while elections no body bothered about it. now a days with high end technology available it is so easy to tamper the pcos. Politicians do millions of scams and they easy afford to tamper those. we can never trust those pcos, only manual paper voting is best. some countries stopped it but some didn't

I think I am more confident in automated election than a manual operation.. yes automated still needs humans to operate it but pcos machine was designed to be accurate and our vote is more safer than in ballot boxes.. we just have to embrace the new system of voting and as a filipino let's be responsible and also be a keen observer on what is going on during and after election to avoid any wrong doings..

I think its nice because it can process fast than the manual , but government needs to provide generator for it so it wont be bothered if brown out occurs , and also a reliable connection for data transfer . I know it can still be manipulated by those cheaters cheaters .

The PCOS machines is already programmed, and the role of a person is to generate the datum collected from the voters input by printing it out. In terms of tallying the votes, it is the machine job and not a human job. I agreed to your mom that even if we say that is automated, it is also vulnerable to threats that it can be manipulated by an expert hackers. I am sure that PCOS machines do counting accurately, but depends how it is programmed to count.

Hi,
If we keep on griping about how the government runs the election we get nowhere. I have full belief in the computer system, it is fast and accurate to my experience. If one has served during the manual election, he knows how tedious the whole process can be. It start from the casting of votes where someone has to look for the names in the voters list, down to the reading of the votes after the votes has been cast and putting the whole process on the tally board and tally sheets.
Nowadays, as I have observed in the past election, the process has become simpler with the computerized system. All we have to do is wait for the result on the projection screen and that is all there to it. Beliefs that it can be rigged is farfetched and is only held by those not oriented with the whole process. It is too technical to discuss it here, like a computer technician, I can put my whole confidence in the accuracy of the whole set up.

Using of the ballot boxes has more risk compared to PCOS. It is difficult to cheat on PCOS. And you don't have to transport the results unlike ballot boxes. Transporting ballot boxes could also be very dangerous.
