this is my first time to make a bread. well, my mother give me a little help, but only when i have to baked the bread. well, first of all, i make the bread with all of ingredients i have, like sugar, Permian, flour, water, butter, and egg. i've done all of the step. i was really happy when i was waiting my bread finished to be baked. and when my mother call, she suddenly throw me something. it's really hard, that thing hit my head, and i felt the room was spinning. i asked my mother "what is that?" she answered " do you not know? it's your bread!" i was shocked at that time. what? what i have done to make my bread hard like a stone?

Did you remember to add the yeast and wait for the bread to double in size? You have to do this and then knead lightly again before baking in a moderate oven. Why did your mother throw it at you instead of assisting you?

Cynthiann, what about the eggs? That sounds wrong to me, I never put eggs in bread?
I always like to add a little rolled oats, they give the bread a little something extra
all the best, urban

You must wait for the yeast to work. Mix it in warm water with sugar. The dough should double in size

There are two main reasons your bread is as hard as stone: either the dough was too hard from the beginning, before putting it to rise, or you didn't leave it to rise in a warm place until the form is bellied (at least half an hour). Also you must not forget that the flour needs to be of high quality. I do not use eggs and butter. I simply make my bread from flour, brewery yeast dissolved in warm milk and a teaspoonful of sugar and just add to them salted water. You may also add a few seeds or spicy herbs.

If you want to add some fat, sunflower oil is what I use. Add one or two spoonfuls. But the main secret is that all ingredients must be warm when making the bread or at least at room temperature. I use to warm (not hot!) especially the milk and the water on a stove, the rest at room temperature.

that is normal when we first bake or cook something, most of the time it doesn't come out perfect even if we believe we have done everything and followed the instructions. but don't give up, just keep on doing and baking bread, practice makes perfect.

Next time, You have to make sure that your baked bread is good. It is your first time to make a bread so that's okay. If you think about your room was spinning when your mother threw your bread and hit your head. I wonder how hard your baked bread was?

Hey,
it's nice tohear that you are trying to make a bread. However, it seems like your first attempt is a failure becuase it is as hard as a stone. Still, good attempt and i hope you will try again :)

Hi,
You have turned stone to bread, only harder this time. When you fail to make the dough rise by adding yeast, or you have not waited long enough for it to rise, the result is a hard bread like a, well, stone like you said. I am not that good in bread baking for I have not yet assembled the oven for the purpose.

Ahhh! Baking is such a science my dear. You have to have the right measurements. If something is less or too much, that makes the bread...well, unbread. :D Another thing is that the dough needs to rest. Room temperature or inside the fridge or near your pre-heating oven, it needs to rest. Speaking of pre-heated oven, did you pre-heat it? Usually, that's another important part of baking the gets ignored. Good luck on the second bread! :)

well i'm not pre-heat my oven,, maybe that one of my failure, but i'm sure to measurement, but once again my failure is not wait when the dough has done.. well next time i'll give attention all of them.. thanks for your comment

your experience reminds me of a story about three small funny handmade stools from the great physicist Albert Einstein.all students including the teacher laughed at his three stools, but he said that each one was better than the prior one,the last one was best, though it was still ugly.i was moved by his words.yes, in our life, the first experience must be memorable and unforgettable.you still have been moved since you remind it every moment in next many years.keep in mind that the first was not good, now is common, the next will be better.
