Ontario Ice Storm Update I Saw On CTV News

I just turned on the 11:30 news on CKCO TV (CTV cable 12) and some of the pictures are amazing! Trees absolutely coated in ice (they look like they've been dipped in glass!!!), trees, branches, and hydro poles down everywhere, and cities such as Wellesley Ontario (not a big city, but not a village either!) will be without power, probably until Sunday night. My mother and step-dad live in a similar kind of area, and as I mentioned earlier tonight, they have absolutely no idea when the power will be back on. Mom's rather perturbed because neither she nor Dave had work today, and they are going to have company coming over tomorrow. They have a generation now, to keep the sump pump going, and one of their fridges, so the food won't spoil. House is totally dark.
In some areas such as Wellesley, community centres are turning into "warming centres" for people to warm up, get food and something to drink, etc. In one way it's a good thing the power came on here in Guelph, because Walker and I have electric heat. On the other hand, the heat is so expensive, in the winter, we really only keep it on enough so that the pipes don't freeze. If we had no heat in here at all, we'd do just fine wrapped up in our nice warm duvet. I also have two VERY HEAVY QUILTS that my old order Mennonite step-grandma (Dave's Mom!) made for me.
Back in 1998 there was a much worse ice storm in Montreal (I think it stretched all over Quebec!) and my Uncle and Aunt, who live in Montreal, were without hydro for MONTHS!! They ended up living in their basement with the wood stove.
I'll post more updates about the weather conditions up here, as I hear them.

How was it up Ennotville, Elora and Salem way? (I have sisters there, but they never tell me anything.)

We had an ice storm several years ago here in Kentucky ,and all the electricity was gone and it was hard for us because I also live in the country. This was the first time that I ever experience something like that ,but at the same time the trees looked so beautiful. It was like looking at a Christmas card.
