I and writing here this one since I know that many filipinos know this variety of banana.
This morning in our meeting, one of my colleagues baked saba. She put it in a microwave and cook it for few minutes. It was good but after a few minutes, it hardened a bit but it was still good.
How about you fellow filipinos, what are the other ways of cooking saba you know aside from boiled, banana cue and turon?
good day!

Right now, I am cooking lunch. We have pork nilaga with saba, potatoes and cabbage. There rest of the saba which was courtesy of our neighbor will be made into minatamis na saba with crushed ice and milk as familiarly called saba con yelo. Do you know that in the company where I used to work, saba is made into catsup? It is boiled and mashed and processed into one of the more popular brands of catsup we have in the country.

Yes, we used to put them in nilaga too. Saba con yelo is also good and perfect for the summer.
I learn something today, saba variety is the one used in making catsup. I thought it was the other variety like the one in the packaging.

Yes it is definitely boiled saba that is used in making banana catsup. We at the office used to ask for some boiled saba from production for our noontime snack. Mashing the saba was a difficult process since it has to be mashed while warm to make the job easier. I will add some information. Do you know that pure mango juice is not made from ripe mangoes? They make the puree while the mango is still half ripe.

I think those are not healthy at all since it was cooked over oil making it loaded with calories especially the turon wherein the wrapper absorbs too much oil.
On the other hand, these are really delicious.

Since summer time is here I love making my version of BANANA Con Yelo. It's having a banana cooked through boiling with a sugar syrup and after setting it a side to cool, I put crushed ice and a condensed milk. It is really yummy and nutritious! It is good to combat the summer heat!

I love this recipe too. I love it with sago or tapioca pearls. This is really great snack not only on summer but whenever it is hot.

I used that banana variety in cooking Sinampalakong Manok (Sour Chicken Stew). But I would often cook it with brown sugar, Sweetened Banana (Minatamis na Saging).

This is new to me. Adding it to that dish. I might try this one too. I love such experimental cooking.

Hi,
Saba banana is superior than any other in my opinion. It may be smaller but it packs a lot of good nutrients and is tastier, as you have said. I prefer it ripe and boiled with coconut milk and sugar or the green, unripe ones, boiled and paired with the Filipino version of "sashimi" raw fish fillet in vinegar, hot peppers and spices.

I think banana is one of the best fruit. Natural medicine used to recommend this banana for breakfast. It helps remove toxins in our body. However, there are some instructions on how to prepare the banana.

I usually do minatamis na saba. I cook it in a water with brown sugar, until the water becomes sticky and the saba is cooked.
Then i would place it inside the chiller and eat it when it's already chilled. Yummy!

That was great way to enjoy banana. I think this is better with milk and pearl (sago)

i am familiar about that too, it is better to put it in a toaster, sometimes i do that too and it's great, if done in the microwave it hardens just like heating a bread there. there are a lot of ways to do with banana..i am also familiar about this one where the banana was boiled then they kind of mash it and mold it into a circle, i forgot what they call that, also i am familiar with this where they slice a banana into 3 that it comes out like a fan then they put a flour on it and fry it..that taste great too..i miss eating a banana that way..
