Meet 22-year-old Mao (pseudonym)
After a number of failed attempts to subdue his raging internet addiction, he resorted to emergency measures. After spending two solid days online at an internet cafe in Hangzhou, China, he called 110 (China's 911) on Thursday and asked the police to restrain him. “Lock me up for a few months,” Mao told the dispatcher. “I can't control myself.” Mao had battled internet addiction for some time. After losing his laptop, he had opted not to buy a new one; he hawked his smartphone and got himself an online-incapable Nokia; and he even took a job with long hours in hopes that he would be too exhausted to go online.(...)

That sounds extreme, doesn't it?
As the story goes on, of course authorities refused to put him behind bars. They referred him instead to sessions with a mental health expert.
Internet addiction has raised into a major problem for a past few years. Seems like nowadays people prefer to spend their time to go online rather than do something else.
Are you also a heavy internet addicts?
Moreover, have you ever been trapped in any bad addiction?
How do you usually get away from that addiction?
Would you prefer to be jailed because you can't control yourself from that addiction?

Sadly, I can't tear away from the internet again. I have long abandoned Facebook, and then I discovered Candy Crush (I play at Facebook) and now I'm hooked. I have an uber busy life, having two jobs and the weekend is all that's left for me to take care of me and my home and there I go, getting hooked on Candy Crush and Facebook and the internet in general and so the weekend is almost over and have not prepared the things I need for the weekday.
And then, I get to my day job, which is more liberal on internet use, and instead of using my spare time to sleep - I surf. Dang.
But, of course I will never turn my self in for internet addiction. I can still manage to get my self to shut down that laptop and do my chores.

I spend a lot of time online, but I wouldn't call myself an internet addict because I am able to stay away from the internet when I am busy with other things. When I travel I hardly ever use the internet. I might check my email or something like that, but I don't spend hours online like I do at home.
am a member of a local discussion site from my country, and one of the very active members asked the admin to ban her for a month because she had to study and she was unable to stay away from the discussion site. The admin agreed to help her and he banned her for one month...but she still couldn't stay away and she created a new profile. I think that you are seriously addiction when you have ask the admin to ban you, but it is not as extreme as the man you mentioned who asked to police to lock him up.

Oh wow!
Maybe the admin could help her more by banning her IP address so she couldn't make another ID..
She will probably tries another way to access that forum, but at least we have already tried our best. As for the rest, it's up to her. I guess heavy addiction can only be cured from inside..

That's simply lack of self-control and discipline. I would not be addicted to my computer because I get bored easily. If I stay for too long over something expect I will leave that thing and have a vacation away.

Hi,
I haven't so addicted to something for which I would prefer to go to jail. I don't have such addiction. I have addicted to mylot. But not much as that boy in the picture. That boy is not ready to leave the CPU. Now a days everyone is addicted to computer, online jobs, chatting and so they don't have any personal touch to people.

I actually kinda doubt that lots of people addicted on online jobs. Well, most people can only earn a few cents - I guess most of them will get bored easily with that.
As for the picture - well, it's not the China man on the news. It just a random picture to spice up the discussion.
And the picture even shows something more extreme. But I believe it may happen somewhere in the world!

Never get into that point but I'm so enjoy with my computer and that I cannot make a day without using it. But I think I can control myself especially if I know i'm getting obsessed of something.

Yeah, but somehow I got a good point from that China man's case. He's addicted to internet, he knows that he is, and he tried to get away from it.
Meanwhile, there are lots of people who get badly addicted to something and they won't admit it.
Yeah, self control is the important point here

Yeah, me too. There was time when I didn't touch computer for days, and everything just went fine.
And well, he was actually trying. He tried to abandon his laptop and smartphone, but he ended up spending his time on internet cafe
Maybe he thinks that life wouldn't be complete without internet
