When you go shopping for clothes for a baby or toddler would you spend sixty-nine dollars for a dress size 12 to 24 months. What about a pocketbook for a little girl at the price of thirty-five dollars. I can't believe the prices in Babies-R-Us. I could never see paying that kind of money when the baby or child will grow out of the outfit before it is able to wear it twice, if lucky. Even if I was rich I wouldn't be wasting money on clothes at those prices for a baby or toddler. What about you, would you?

I consider it absurd to spend that amount onm clothes. I don`t spend much on myself either, except for shoes as I have very delicate feet. But people (and specially babies and toddlers) only need comfortable clothes, warm in Winter and fresh in Summer. Unexpensive clothing can meet that criteria so there`s no need to spend more on brand items.

I know I'm the same way I refuse to spend alot of money for my own clothing too, let alone a baby or toddler.

Hello again Lelin! No I can´t afford those kind of prices. I remember I sew many dresses to my baby girl, I bouht mc calls sweing patterns, and many times, as we can´t afford a sewing machine I saw them by my hand. Later on I bought a sewing machine and made my kids a lot of clothes =) It was very worthy and I was always busy with those tasks.
But it seems there´s people that can pay those kind of clothes. Like my mom when she was employee or like my sis in law. Good for them. But I prefered to raise my children and stay at home.
Blessings Lelin... dainy

Hello Marguicha, I´m pleased to read you. Really? You also sewed? I remember the process. I was very excited choosing colors and patterns for every new project.
Ohhh yes we can buy unexpensive and nice clothes for little money! Me too. Since we moved to this smaller city I found a lot of clothes coming from the US, many with they tickets of new clothes at the flea markets. As low as $2 us dls. Once I bought a dress for me for $.60. Nobody at home could believe it.
And shopping at flea markets it is the best I can do now with my teenager, buy her clothes at the flea market because sometimes my daughter wears her clothes one, two or three times, and she doesn´t love them any more. I can´t think in expending too much money in clothes for her. Maybe when she gets her own job she could buy the clothes she wants. However she is a lovely and comprehensive teen, she doesn´t ask me to buy her brandname clothes, never.
Blessings Marguicha!... dainy

I wish I had learned to make my own clothes for my kids that would have been nice. I just think even if you are rich these people are insane to be spending that type of money on babies clothes.

I agree. It's crazy. I was going to buy my son a pair of jeans and then saw that they were $30 and I just couldn't fathom paying that! The most I'm willing to pay for a pair of pants is $10. I wont go over $20 for an outfit and the only reason while I sometimes go that much is for pictures or something. I usually buy most of my sons stuff either used or on sale. I usually go to Children's Place for his clothes as their prices aren't too high. I can usually find a lot of clothes there for under $10. Especially when they do their sales. Even some of those second hand clothing stores can be fairly expensive. I have seen some of their clothing used go for more than what I can sometimes buy it new at a store. Walmart can even be on the pricy side at times. I was like why pay $8 for a pair of off brand pants when I can pay $10 for name brand? It's just getting ridiculous. They know that we have to dress our kids so they seem to think they can get away with jacking their prices up. My son is usually dressed cute and I don't pay a fraction of the price some people pay for their kids clothes. Not everything has to be name brand or brand new. I have also gotten clothes from my sisters kids and they are perfectly nice clothes most are even name brand and I didn't have to pay anything for them. I know some people seem to think their kids have to wear new name brand clothes. I will never be able to bring myself to pay that much for a kid who is just going to outgrow them before the year is out or sometimes even month is out.

Yeah, Children's Place has a lot of good sales especially at the end of a season. I bought my son clothes for the following summer one year for maybe $2 a piece. I have also bought him winter hats and such for about $2 for next winter. Children's Place is usually fairly affordable and has cute stuff, which is why a good majority of my sons clothes come from there. I don't have a Carter's close to me, but I see there stuff in a lot of the other stores around they tend to have a clothing line for about every store around, but they tend to be on the expensive side in a lot of the stores. Elderbeerman is especially expensive. That's where I saw the $30 jeans...they were on sale for like 25 I later realized but still, I couldn't fathom it. $10 is my max on pants. I may go a little higher on clothes when he stays in them for at least a year at a time, but right now it makes no sense to pay such high prices.

I know what you mean and I don't blame you. It is crazy to spend 30 dollars on a pair of jean when the child is going to our grow before you know it. When I'm buying clothes for my three grandkids I go to The Children's Place, Carters or Walmart but only when the good sales are happening.

Hi lelin!
That is really surprising that baby clothes and books are high in the market. When my kids were still young, I did not buy lots of baby clothes because I knew that they would grow fast and it is just a waste of money. But when it comes to books, I don't mind if its cost me a little. It is a good investment for the kids' first step to education.

Books are not a problem because they can have them for awhile. We are talking clothes, shoes, etc... Its not worth spending alot on kids when they are going to out grow them in a few months.

I completely agree with you on this. Baby clothes are really expensive these days and at times, it's even more expensive than my clothes!
Here in the Philippines, we have a store called Mothercare where they sell really cute baby clothes and shoes and mind you, it costs thousands of pesos! I used to buy clothes for my daughter in that store but when I noticed that she's only wearing the clothes literally once, I decided to stop buying there and opted for cheaper ones. I'm trying to be practical these days :)

Exactly, but there are people in this world who are snobs and have to have nothing but the most expensive clothes for their kids. It makes no sense at all.

That's true :) And people won't even notice and they won't even care whether the kid is wearing expensive clothes or shoes :)) So the best way is to be practical and not splurge too much on baby clothes. They're going to outgrow it anyway.

I would not spend that amount of money for a baby or toddler too. It is too expensive for me and I do not find it worth while. Moreover, they out grow it very fast and soon it will be fitting for them and ended up a waste.

This is why I don't understand how a store like babies r us remains in business all these years with thoses prices. When the majority of people can't afford or want to spend that kind of money on baby and toddler clothes.

I agree with you completely. Spending that kind of money on something they are going to not only out grow fast, they also are going to be getting food, dirt, slobber on etc because that's what babies do :) And another thing about it, babies don't know or care what they are dressed in as long as its comfortable. To parents that say they spend so much because they "only want the best possible for their child", like its a statement of their love for their child, thats a crock, if you really wanted only the best for your child, you would save that money for practical things and not raise your children to put so much into materialistic ideals.

I wouldn't even waste money on one expensive outfit. Its just not worth it to me. Especially how a baby or toddler can puke or poop on their outfits, no way.

Ok, here's how I look at this and I'm probably going to get flack because of it. I never had enough money to even consider spending that type of money on an outfit or pocketbook. So in all reality, it's easy for me to say "Oh heck no, I would never do that"....
Is it wise?..of course not. But there are many people all over who make hundreds of thousands of dollars and to them this is a drop in the bucket. Most people live according to their means. I never had that kind of money so no I wouldn't spend that kind of money, but some people do.
I know you said "even if I were rich I wouldn't be wasting money on clothes at those prices for a baby or toddler"....but you really don't know that do you?.....just sayin'.
I don't think I would, but then again, I'm no where close to rich.

I definitely know if I was to suddenly come into money, for instance I win the lottery I would still not spend that kind of money on baby or toddler clothes. I know myself and I know its a waste of money to me. It makes not a bit of sense to buy clothes that expensive for a baby or a toddler when they are constantly growing. Like someone else wrote that its insane and it is.

No way would I pay those prices!!
When my kids were growing up I bought their clothes from thrift stores. There was one store called Other Mothers that was fantastic--they accepted clothing and equipment on consignment and they had to be stain-free, etc. I could get a shirt that the retail stores listed at $9 for just $2 there. I got toys and stuff there, too. It was a great place, as were the thrift stores, to get nice clothing that was quickly outgrown.
I can't believe people spend that kind of money on their kids. I love my kids. But when they were growing up I would save on clothing so that I could buy them other things like better food, trips to museums and the train park, and other things we could enjoy together. They don't remember their clothes these days but they do remember all the things we had fun doing with the money I saved on clothes!
Both my boys remember one item of clothing in particular. I got them each a used sweatshirt when they were about 4 and 5 years old. I sewed on all kinds of unusual buttons I found in a big box at the thrift store for 25¢. They absolutely loved their "button shirts"! Something similar in a retail store, if anyone would have thought to manufacture one, would have cost at least 20 times the $2.25 I spent on both of them together.

You made an excellent point! Kids don't remember the clothes they wore when they were young they do remember certain toys and definitely vacations.

I agree w/u 100%. Even if i had that much money which i don't i wouldn't waste money like that. I know people do but i question their insanity. As my bigmama use to say they have got more money than sense.Happy weekend to u.

I love that - They have more money then sense! I gotta remember that one. I feel they only do that to show off especially the people who buy a gift and leave the prices on them. The best are people who buy expensive but don't have a pot to piss in.

I would never spend those kind of prices, especially since babies and toddlers grow so fast! I shop at cheaper stores for my kids, they grow out of clothes so fast! I could not afford to buy there either...

Me too... I would rather choose to buy something interesting and productive for my child instead of wasting that much amount on her dress which she would not be able to wear more than ones or twice.

Yes, if you go with designer type clothes the prices are outrageous for a baby or toddler. It makes not a bit of sense to spend so much money when the baby or child will not get any use out of it. I've seen people who have given my daughter clothes with the tags still on them because the child grew to big to fast and never had the time to wear the clothes.
