I used to cry at some movies many decades ago. But it seems that the older I get, the more I cry. It seems that in spite of my wishes, I`m getting old.
I remember the first movie that made me cry. It was Walt Disney`s Bambi in the part where they kill his mother. Then the movies had to be very moving to make me cry.
Now I cry many times. I`ll watching for the 10th times Steel magnolias on TV and cry while I watch and post.
Do you cry at movies? Tell us your experiences.

I'm a guy and I cry at movies, although I think I've only ever cried in front of anyone once, and that was many years ago at the end of the Alan Ladd movie, "Shane", as he's riding away into the distance. I was watching this movie with family members, and had to leave the room in a hurry, as I was blubbing uncontrollably. I was pretty embarassed, and I've never done it since; but when alone, well I can cry at the drop of a hat. In fact, as a singer-musician, it helps me to get into the mood when I'm recording a song on my home recording equipment. I'll play a moving song and start to cry, and it kinda gets me into an emotional state. Although more often than not by the time I get the "take", I'm no longer remotely sad. It's a kind of a ritual for me. But as I recall there have been times in public I've had to use powers of self-control to stop weeping openly. In fact last time I think was when I was watching "The Way We Were" with family. Unless I'm mistaken, I had to fiercely resist not bawling like an infant: that movie gets to me I'll admit it, especially the way Streisand sings the theme song, it's just so sad. I guess I'm just a sentimental, soft-hearted individual. I can be strong, don't get me wrong; it's just that my heart is very easily touched.

It is important, as I see it, that we have the capacity to be moved. Although we can be strong if the occation requires it, I don`t know why must do it if it is not needed it. Thanks for sharing!

Hey marguicha,
i think it depends on the movie itself. If the movie is really sad, i might cry at certain part of the show.
However, whenever i do that, i hope people don't see so i'll try my best to control if i'm with others.

That`s one of the good things about cinemas: the room is dark. I always take some paper hankies to the cinema, just in case.

Hello!
it's good in cinemas becuase you are right, it is dark inside and everyone is all focused on the screen.
Definitley, it's a good idea to always keep some paper hankies in our bag for just in case :)

not that i am criticizing, but i don't understand how people can cry over movies. i understand WHY they cry over movies. i guess, i was just never that moved to cry. this being said, i have seen some really heart tugging movies. i've been moved, but never wanted to cry.

I guess people cry when watching movies when they imagine themselves being in the same situation. Of course, there are other reasons too! I used to cry when I saw a tear in anyone else's eye. Not very loudly! But my eyes used to get wet.

Yes I cry at movies, not all but some. The notebook is a real tear jerker. I even cry when I am reading books.

I have cried with some books since I was a kid. I read lots of books way before I started to watch many films.

I use to make sure I read the book before watching the movie, now that I have grown up and have children I don't always have time to read the book before watching the movie.

I used to in my younger years but due to some trials I've gone through, my crying habit stopped and I find it difficult to cry even in real life circumstances but deep within I empathize with the situation. Exceptions are programs or movies showing children's suffering, that's where I can't hold back my tears and sometimes I am not even aware that I am already crying.

Guilty here! I don't know why I get too affected/emotional when I watch movies or tv programs that drama in nature. Sometimes, I could control it, but most of the times, I just cry.

I cry a lot more now that I`m old with moving situations, but it seems that I have always been the crying type in movies and books.

I easily cry. Whenever I watch a very touching movie, I do cry a lot. My husband usually tells me that it is not a good movie when it makes me cry. But I love movies which touch the heart and reflect the reality.

There are good and bad moving movies. I don`t think that a movie is bad "just because" it is a moving or a sad one.

I have a cousin sister who is much elder than me. She always cry when she watch movies or even a drama shows in the TV. She is easily influence and moved emotionally. Each time she watch movies or drama TV shows, she would ended up finding facial tissue . . So, we used called her crying baby as either happy or sad she will easily shed her tears. Tears of joy and saddness .

I used to cry so much at movies when I was little! I cried a lot when Mufasa was killed and Simba was calling for help in Lion King.
