I find it annoying whenever i hear and see the church representatives meddling in the affairs of the state especially during election campaign. I personally believe that the heads of the churches around the globe should only focus on the spiritual being of its believers and followers. The government and the church have different advocacy and seeing them in a dispute about issues put people in confusion. I also find it funny whenever politicians go and seek the endorsement of religious sects to solicit solid votes for their candidacy. Do you have the same feeling regarding this?

there is a law regarding the separation of the state and religion but somehow most church representatives do not respect this. they use their influence on people to meddle in politics. we cannot find fault in them if they sometimes issue statements regarding issues. religion is the custodian of the laws of god and their representatives have a right to remind their followers if they feel that some laws violate the divine laws. however, endorsing candidates is going too far. out of spite, the rebel in me would vote for the other candidate.

As what I've heard and read, the only reason why some church people do interfere and participate political activities is that they wanted to support those people, law and bills which are pro-church and pro-life. They lure people to also supports those rather than just wait for the submission of things that will somehow ruin the sanctity of life and faith.

kenshin, you mentioned laws that are pro-life. well, this are exactly what i meant. i don't mind if they issue statements regarding their views on these. it is their duty to the church. i draw the line when they endorse candidates. they shouldn't get involved in this.

Actually, it is already the law that religion has to be separate from government. But the church never wishes to lose power and it also happens that some politicians also have their vested interests. Politicians also want power and to make a lot of money through corrupt means. Therefore, we see that religion and government often gets mixed up in order to control the masses.

Hi cherigucchi, That is absolutely true - Religion and Politics should not mix. I am thankful that I live in Canada where it just doesn't happen. When you mix religion and politics there is always trouble and it is never good for the people of the country. Let the religious leaders take care of the spiritual needs of their people and let the political leaders keep their religious beliefs to themselves, it should have nothing to do with how the country is governed. Blessings.

Religion and politics are both powerful and can be controlling so at times they overlap each other. Religions are guardians of morality and so they need to voice out their opinions. Politicians sees solid votes from a particular church or religious group so they would ask the support of religious leaders to campaign for them. Of the two I think politics is better than religion.
