buying things for the family on my trip

I went to an out-of-town trip two days ago with my co-workers. We stayed there for four days and I did enjoy the whole stay because we tour the city. I did appreciate the places i had seen for the first time and felt that it would have been better if I had my husband and my kids with me enjoying the moment together. A thought came to my mind that I would be saving money for the family trip like that. To compensate missing all of them and the guilt feeling of not bringing them with me, I shopped a lot of things for them that I knew that they would enjoy. It was a good thing that i had saved enough money for the trip aside from the pocket money that was given by the office. Do you also shop for your family whenever you are in a long or short trip without them? I love the anticipation of seeing their eyes rolling upon seeing those simple things I bought for them when I got home.

I loved my mother, when she always brought the things to eat from the market. I was a kid and I always wanted to go with her to market to roam around but she won't allow, but always remembered to bring the fruits and other things to eat. I loved that part. I am sure that your kids and relatives would love that too.

Well, I imagine what your kids would obviously grateful if they had come traveling with you. But I believe that you have the opportunity to repeat a similar trip and this time also carry around your kids. I say this out of pure intuition. I have no family, no children, and then when I go on a trip, I often alone or in the company of my dear friend Angelo. However, this time not to make you feel too much guilt. Meanwhile, now what's past is past! Just think next time it will be different! Take care!

I tend to shop for my family members when I am out and about more then for myself. I guess it just shows how much we care for those close to us. Nothing wrong with that.

Hi there Cheri, We do have that kind of tradition here in our country that we we go some place that is foreign to us or that our family has never been yet we tend to buy them special things from that place to give to our loved-ones back home so that in some way they can enjoy the products from that region.

That is also one way of knowing the place we visited closely. We can tell good stories of our experience when we do that and we also keep good memories from the things that we usually bring home. Thanks for your response

For immediate family members and my best friends, yes I always make it a point to get them something whenever I visit a certain place for the first time. It is my way of telling them that I wish they are there with me, and that since it is not possible, I will be bringing the memories to them in the form of small tokens and gifts.

Maybe I was selfish, while I was on my trip to other place, I rarely bought stuff for my family. I felt guilty on this one though. Usually, they said they don't want me to spend that much money, but I knew that if I buy something for them, they are equally happy. So, maybe next time I was on a trip, I should get something for them, instead of enjoy the whole trip without buying anything.

I used to do the same thing when I was married and my sons were young. Now I don't get to take trips like that very often. When I went to Key West I did pick up a t-shirt for both of them. Anymore it is so hard to find things that they don't already have and neither are into nic nac type things.

i always buy souvenirs whenever i travel. not those expensive ones, just small cheap little things. i buy those that usually depict the places i've visited. like when we went to paris last year, i bought key chains with the eiffel tower and coins from the church of the notre dame. i gave most of them away to my family and friends. in this manner, they know that even while i was away and having a good time, i still remembered them.

I do not travel on my own during the tenure of my work. However, my family and I used to travel together for holidays . During the trips we will not forget to buy some sovenirs and food for our colleagues and family members.
