Why fool people

India
April 14, 2013 7:09am CST
A cloth washing powder says in TV ads that one can find gold coin in the packets that are sold now. One of my renters bought 2 crates that have 25 packets of 1 kg each, cut them open to find nothing. My grocery supplier said many persons who use to buy half kg packets bought several kilos. One even bought a metal detector to search for the gold coin. This is bad; they are fooling people by misleading ads. Each day they adopt new methods to boost sales. Any such thing at your end? Please respond comment and share your experience if any. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. Bhuwan Saraf. PhD. April 14 , 2013. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

All are just gimmicks to get you to buy their product. I once saw same for a candy here. Said 1 in 10 candies had a dollar. I had a box of 50 candies new I bought from main dist. We open all on halloween and didnt win any.. Very sad.

Hey there, So nice that you are still posting. I had to take a leave of absence for two years. It is nice to be back here. Your post reminds me of the carrot dangling in front of the donkey, so it would run. Same here. - But I am convinced that this kind of practice is not very successful in the long run.- People will not buy into this kind of practice another time. The customers they had this time might not come back.- So often people forget that the greediness they send out will come back to them. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Professor2010, It is nice that you responded to my comment. Often there is no dialog even though there should be a discussion there. I am German and live in Florida USA as well as in Germany at the moment. My Mother became very sick ( kidney failure ) after my Dad passed away and she needed my assistance. So now I am here and there.- For a while I did not feel like writing being busy otherwise.- I am sad to hear that you are not active like before. What used to be your subject of interest? I once studied English and German at the University of Düsseldorf NRW. But over the years I got interested in a lot of other things as life poses questions we all want to be answered. One of these interests is homeopathy or healing with herbs etc. Again I am happy you answered this way. All the best till next time.

That is quite sad but it also happens here and well i am not fooled, this is part of a marketing strategy for them to buy those packets and the thing is, not all of the packets contain the coin.. its like one of the detergent companies did here too, like if you get the coin you win some money..

That is just how marketing strategy works. They need to increase their sales and their way of making that happen is to make an all out promo for something like finding a gold coin or as much as 1 Million Pesos.

Even if one in Fifty Thousand persons finds a gold coin or something similar, the company would already have made a great profit.

Some times they say it has gold coin, at times gold jewelry and at times cash-back coupons.

Do not fall for gimmick like this,if the manufacturer is going to give gold coins to each and every one,he will have to close shop.So do not fall for such gimmick.

The manufacturer would in fact keep a ratio like one gold coin per 50,000 samples, or even lesser. They would first make a lot of profit and then give some prize to the public. Its all "Marketing strategy".

Certainly not to each and every one.

I think it is bad business for a company to do this to their customers. They might sell a lot of it as long as the promotion runs but they might lose lifetime possible customers that end up disappointed that they didn't win a gold coin. They might be further ahead to save the extra money somewhere where they can get interest on their savings and they would end up having enough to buy their own gold coin.

I wonder what the chances are of winning? It's quite funny what people will buy in order to try and get the prize. This reminds me the story/movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . . . 7 (I think) golden tickets were hidden in 7 chocolate bars - the ticket holders would be able to go to the Chocolate Factory . . . and people went NUTS to get a hold of these precious tickets!! It's so hard for me to believe people would go so far to get such a prize - but I realize some people are THAT desperate. Maybe the cloth washing powder did indeed toss in a few gold coins into some of their boxes - so obviously the chances of winning are slim. Ah, those kinds of marketing schemes are such a gamble - with my luck I know I would never win. And that's ok - at least I wouldn't want to be stuck with a life supply of cloth washing powder!!!

Surely, you did not think you were going to find gold coins in a box of washing powder? What made you fall for such a trick? I am speechless that someone in this day and age would fall prey to schemers like that. Shame. And shame on those who did this to you.

Its pretty rampant here in our country too but I guess those coins are just too rare to find. Maybe its safe to say there would be 2 packs having coins out of 1 million packs. That practice you mentioned is not really convenient because there are chances that a particular super market did not receive any packs containing those coins.

Hi Prof ! Haha i have experienced that very same thing . A saleslady dropped in our home because she have this detergent product , a promotional product where in have some prices inside the detergent powder . So i was convinced and also i pitied her , so to increased her sales i bought dozens for she said that in one of those pack were some price that i will be getting . When the sales lady left i opened all the detergent powder and there were nothing i saw but purely those powder. Haha i was fooled by sales lady and the company. A lesson learnt , i need to use my brain always and not be convinced with beautiful sales talk.

Yeah, I guess so, maybe they will just do that as a trick for the consumer to buy more and more and so for their sale to get boost but that is a bad habit for the manufacturer or the company of a certain household products. They are just making their consumer not to buy anymore their products nor patronize their promos.
