I found it!

A couple of weeks ago I was pretty upset after losing my partner's ring. You may have seen my discussion about it here. Last night whilst I was stacking firewood next to the stove I found it lying on the floor directly in front of me! My guess is that is slipped off my finger whilst I was putting down a load of wood, and that it has been sitting underneath the pile ever since. I'm thrilled of course, and very pleased that we had not yet got around to buying me a replacement. The peculiar thing is that when I went to slip it back on my finger I could not get it over my knuckle. Perhaps my hand has grown in the intervening weeks? Unlikely! Or the ring has shrunk in the heat from the stove? Also unlikely! It shall remain a mystery I suppose, and in the meantime the ring is stashed safely until I can get it to a jewellers. Have you a nice story about something lost and then found?

Congratulations my friend, I do remember the discussion in question and I remember saying that often you find things when you have given up on looking for them, or have stopped looking for them considering them to be lost! The great mystery solved! My nice story actually involves losing an animal! When my ex and I moved home we took the two cats with us, but one of them suddenly went missing, we were beside ourselves with worry, combing the streets, asking our new neighbours and worrying about where he had gone, it was only hours later we were sitting down with a drink after the hard work of moving in, and I notice something move at the back of the television, the cat had only found himself a nice hidey hole and curled up and went to sleep! We were so damn relieved to find him, little monkey, I swear he did that to us on purpose as if to say how dare you move me from my old home!

They are very cunning! And have a knack of finding these great hidey holes that you would never dream at looking for.

My son spent most of yesterday trying to help a friend find his kitten. There's no sign anywhere, but I'm convinced it must be in their house somewhere as we couldn't find an exit.

That's great news! Its sad to lose something that has sentimental value, in some ways worse than of actual value because you can replace THINGS, you can't replace sentimental things.

Maybe the ring just doesn't like being on your finger? Seriously though, if you raise your hand above your head, fingers pointing up, and shake it, this sometimes makes it easier to put on or take off a ring. I was told this trick by one of those people hawking jewelry cleaner at some fair. It worked for me that time.

Good tip. I'll wait until this evening when it cools down and give it a try.

Hi GreenMoo, Glad you've found your ring. You must be feeling elated since it probably has sentimental and significant meaning to you and your partner. Sometimes lost items tend to appear by themselves. They seemed to be playing a sort of hide-and-seek with you until they're tired of the game! I was not so fortunate. I've lost some money when I went to buy some pastries. I didn't have have small change and so I gave her 50 bucks. She returned me 48 bucks in small denominations which is a small bundle. So I just put it in my pocket and left in a hurry. When I got home I realized that the bundle was gone! Pretty expensive pastries I must add and they didn't even taste that good either!

Ouch! I guess whoever found it must have thought all their Christmases had come at once.

I am glad you found your ring. I lose stuff all the time, but so far not my ring, as it will not come off. I wonder if you are retaining water to make your fingers swell, or maybe you have injured your knuckle. I find things in my yard that I did not lose, but others must have. It can be a pair of shower shoes, or even a fairly expensive watch. It seems always to be exactly what I needed at the time.

How odd that things appear in your yard! Although rather convenient :) I'm guessing my finger is just more swollen as the weather is warmer, so i shall have to try and remember to try it first thing one morning.

I'm so happy for you! I just couldn't even imagine losing something so precious like that and here it was under your nose.....well, almost. I wonder why it doesn't fit anymore...could you be swollen from so much hard work? It wasn't that long ago that your fingers would have changed...I could see that in a few years maybe, but not this quick. That part I just don't get. Anyways, congrats!

It WAS tight, but I guess it's just because the weather is warmer now so my finger is more swollen. I need to try first thing in the morning, but i forgot today.

water weight? Cannot think of a single good lost/found story. Other than my daughter. We lost her and the Renaissaince Faire. the Faire people found her and were going to give her a brownie, but we got there first. She is still mad 11 years later about losing out on the brownie.

Hey, I remember those discussions! And how you were supposed to go with your partner and get a replacement ring. It's great that you found it, even before getting a new one. The only great lost and found story I have is my memory stick which I carry around in my pocket all the time. I once lost it in my old job, and I was worried sick all day because it contained a lot of vital information in there. It had pictures of 'voided' check which I use to open up automatic debit accounts, it had picture of our passports, and some other bills. I dropped it as I was getting out of the car, and it fell on the snow. It was cold and it even rained a bit but I was so glad to find it at the end of the day. I would have been just glad to just find it even if it wasn't working anymore so I know nobody would have accessed the data, but I was even happier to find it working still!

How brilliant is that? You remember my story, right? About my wedding ring going 'missing' then I, too, found it in a peculiar place. I just knew your ring would turn up.
@GreenMoo (11833)

I'd forgotten actually, but you reminded me. You found it in a bag of stuff which was due to exit the house didn't you? So lucky.

I was lucky, you're right. Because the ring was glinting at the bottom I had to dig it out to find out what it was. My face must've been a picture when I realised it was my 'lost' wedding ring..and it had been missing for MONTHS rather than weeks..so I was ecstatic to say the least!

Thats good news. I am glad you found the ring. I don't know why it won't fit. But maybe from carrying the wood your fingers swelled just enough so that the ring would not fit. That happens sometimes. Wait a day or so and try the ring again.

It might be just that the temperature has increased since I lost it and my hands are generally more swollen. It still won't fit.

Glad for you, you have your "lost and found" item back - your partner's ring . I did lost my pendrive last year with very important informations in it . However, I could not find it until today

I am forever losing pendrives, normally because my kids pinch them. Now I back up my back ups! I hope it comes to light eventually.
