I Don't Like Wasting Power But I Need The TV....

If I see a light on that doesn't need to be on or a switch that doesn't need to be on etc then I switch it off to save power and so the power bill isn't too high. The only thing that I do that I am sure a lot of people wouldn't agree with, is I need the television on when I am trying to sleep. I have depression and it can be a right pain when I am tired. If I was to lay down in silence then my head would run absolutely wild with negative thoughts. Like worries I have about people I care about or things to do with my life. I prefer to have one of my DVDs on but one that I have seen many times otherwise I would stay up to watch something I haven't seen before to see what happens. Lately I have been falling asleep to either Family Guy or The Twilight Zone. I used to put music on like Mozart. I love classical music. Especially when I want to sleep. I can't sleep with music that has words though because I would start singing to it. :P But lately Mozart isn't helping me out so its the television I am relying on at the moment. My brother has had a go at me here and there about it but he just doesn't get it. I need some type of familiar background noise to help me stop thinking so I can sleep. Can anyone else relate to what I am talking about? Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

I like the tv off but it does put me to sleep. I have not seen the twilight zone for years, wasn't that scary? I think if a person can read a book it is better it is much better and you dream about something you see before you fall off. I am really exhausted sometime and end up just relaxing with the dumb box on so know what you are talking about.

Hello Bluedoll! I love the Twilight Zone so much. My dad loves it too and he bought the whole series. Have not seen them all yet but was watching more tonight. Ever since I was little, I had only seen these episodes: Time Enough At Last, The Mannequin, The Living Doll, The Changing Of The Guard and The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. I know there are just a few more but I can't remember. But my absolute favourites are Time Enough At Last and The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. I wouldn't say they were scary. Maybe eerie at times but not scary. I do try to read but I end up staying awake longer. :P Thank you so very much for answering. :)

Hello blackrusty! Wow that is a lot haha. :P If I wake up during the night and see me television is still on then I will turn it all off if I am sleepy enough to go back to sleep. We actually have those light bulbs in some of our rooms in the house but I guess we save even more when they are off. Thank you so very much for answering. :)

I do have the tv on sometimes but that is sometimes because I have fallen asleep while watching it. I sometimes do like to have background noise but not for the same reasons as you. I'm sorry you suffer with depression. I'm glad something stops you from thinking when you are trying to sleep. It's horrible to be awake with some bad thoughts. I know what that is like. Hope you have a good day.

Hello AidanKay! Thank you. Depression sucks but I'm not going to let it beat me. Although I say that now. Somedays I am just so fed up with it haha. Sorry you have some negative thinking sometimes. Really annoying when it happens. Thank you so very much for answering. :)
