I have a female african grey bird name Daisy. She is beautiful and talks so much. She is only a year and 2 months old. She speaks so many words both in english and spanish. She will say Mommy, I love you or teamor which means I love you in spanish. She also says "come on lets go" when she wants me to uncover her, night, night, "que pasa" which means what do you want in spanish. She also says "happy birthday" "my name is Daisy, what's your name." The other day she was calling me because I was in another room, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, I walked over to her and said "what" she replied "I love you." I couldn't believe it! She is such a joy to have. Do any of my mylot friends have an african grey or parrot that talks. If so, what are some of the words they say?

No, I don't have one but have a friend that does. He asked me to take care of his animals while he was gone for a few days. I was busy feeding some of the animals when I heard, "Where's Mark?" Believe me I was startled and then the grey started talking up a storm. I had so much fun with that bird.

The greys are super intelligent. My sister could not understand why her milman had stopped delivering milk so she decided to get up early and ask him why when he was deliviering milk in her road. As she was going downstairs she heard the sound of the milkman coming u her driveway. As he reached the door, the parrot shouted out, 'No milk today, thank you'. Now she found out why! lol. She opened the door and told the milkman it was the parrot not her who was giving the instructions. They are brilliant and I woujld love to have a parrot again. They roost in a tree in my garden each night and when nesting, I always go out to see if one has fallen from its nest.

To Velvet53 - That would have scared me too if you hadn't known that it would talk like that.
To Cynthiann - That is so funny about the milkman. They are so intelligent that we are amazed at how fast she is learning or picking up words and sentences in both english and spanish.

A talking pet is awesome. :) I would love to have one. It will surely be loved by my kids and would make a great conversation piece for when I have visitors coming over. :)

Parrots like to be held and loved and this is important to them. They fall in love with their owner as opposed to another parrot, if you get my meaning. Must be touched and petted frequently to give them a pleasant and loving nature.

Yes they are great for a conversation piece. People that come over to visit just love to hear her talk and observe her. Now I wish my dog could talk.

I don't have an African Grey, but I do have a couple of birds. A Sun Conure and a Cockatiel. Suns aren't known to be talkers, just for their beautiful colors. Mine is no exception. All she does is squawk! LOL On the plus side she's relatively quiet, which from what I understand is not like a Sun at all!
My Cockatiel is more of a whistler than a talker. That's mostly due to whistling to him constantly and hardly teaching him any words. I'd rather listen to him whistle anyway. However, he does say one small phrase. He says "Hi Cocoa". My husband taught him that by accident. LOL
Happy mylotting!

Being a whistler isn't bad. Our African Grey also makes sounds, the whistle, sneezing, laughing, other bird sounds that she hears outside, she also does a monkey type of noise, at least that is what it sounds like. Its too funny!

I think that Daisy your African Grey parrot sounds really lovely. It is amazing she says English and Spanish. My mum used to have a White Fronted Amazon parrot. I loved that lovely bird and miss him. He said hello, hello Bingo and bye. His name was Bingo. My mum's American friend gave him to my mum when she moved back home. He lived from 1986 until 2008.

Thank you she is adorable. African Greys life span can out last us so we decided to leave her to our niece when we both are no longer here.

I do not have a parrot now but have owned parrots. People do not understand how intellif=getn they are and I have had someone who were wonderful talkers and so loving. Parriots are an endangerd species where I live so the only ones I get are the ones that have fallen from trees and cannot fly. I had green billand yellow billed parrots but my sister did own an afrcan gtey - they are the best talkers. Yu see, when a parrot falls in love with you then they really begin to talk as they trust you. One of my parrots should shout out and warm me if a son took the truck keys. 'Mummy, come quick. stefan has the truck keys@.
I have so manys stories - wonderful stories of my parrots. They would mimic my distinctive Brit accent and aslo mmic my husband's voice too. In the morning the parrot woud shout out to the boys telling them that it was time to get up! They did not know the difference.
I miss them so much

They are so intelligent and I just can't believe how they pick up things so fast. I would love to hear a parrot speak in that british accent. I was trying to teach her to say "Papi wake up" because he likes to sleep in late. However, Daisy says "mommy wake up" meanwhile I'm the first one up. They are so much fun. I love how the parrot would rat out your son. That is hysterical, I bet your son wasn't to happy about that.

OMG that is so heartbreaking to hear! I would be crying myself if that had happened to me, to hear the parrot asking for him and sounding like your husband.

Wow, That is amusing ! Are you the one whol taught her how to speak like that? If I had one, I would teach her to yell "help! help!" in times of emergency and also greetings such as "welcome everyone (as I have people come to my house often), Good Morning...!". But I wonder if she could recognized the situations when there is danger ?

Yes I have taught her most of the things that she says. She learns quickly and she is quite amusing. I would teach her "help" but she would probably just say it not knowing when there really is an emergency. If I taught her that we would be having the neighbors running to our house thinking something is wrong. She does say good morning in spanish "Bueno Dias." She is a wonderful addition to our family.
