I made a memory garden today

You see, my mom loved pansies for it was her favorite flower because it represents 'love' and my dad loved his windmill. I wanted to have his windmill and in fact, it was so torn to pieces due to the wind that I tried to have it repaired but it was deemed repairable so I bought a new one and I planted pansies all under and around it.
Although my parents and I didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things, I still loved them very much and now that they're gone, I really miss them. Things have happened or things I've heard about, I wish I could call them and tell them but I can't and it's so hard. I do have my two brothers but they're 4 and 5 hours away so it's just my husband and I and it gets a little lonesome but it's the way of life, I guess. I really hope they can see it from Heaven and know that I love them very much and miss them too.
So what do you think of my memory garden? Do you think my parents would be proud?

I think this is a beautiful memory of both your parents. You did a great job and it is pretty. Your parents are smiling down on you right now and always will be. This is a wonderful way to show the love you have for your parents.

Thank you! I've been wondering what I could do in their honor and came up with this idea and went with it. I love it and hope they would too.

I think they would both be very proud.I'm glad u did this . Think u will enjoy it for a long time. I think pansies look like little pretty faces. i have a friend whose mom was named Pansy. She collects things that have pansies on them. I know how much u must miss them. U did soooo much for them that i'm sure u feel lost, w/alot of time on your hands. So glad to see u on mylot.

I did feel lost when both of them passed away. It was like my life wasn't mine for a long time, which I didn't mind at all but then when they passed away, I had to figure out myself again and it's taken a good while and I'm still working on it. There's much to do around my own place but finding the energy to focus has been a real challenge but hubby told me yesterday that he's really proud of me for getting up and moving around doing things the past few days. I'm trying!

I do think your parents would be proud. I really think they were very proud and appreciated everything you were doing for them, even if some times they gave you such a hard time. I am so sorry that things went the way they did, I was sure hoping that things would get better for them. Go out to your memorial and talk to them, tell them the things you want to, I am sure they are listening, and with you.

Thank you! I'm sure they did too and also wanted to keep their independence as much as they could but they went about it the wrong way. I can only hope they realize now that it was about them and not us. I wish I were closer to their graves so I could put flowers on them but this will have to do.

That is so sweet and thoughtful. I'm sure your father is really pleased that you tried to rescue his beloved windmill, but understand that age and the elements have taken their toll. And I'm sure you mother thinks its fitting that they have been planted together as a symbol of their love.

Awww thanks Elic! I've been thinking for months of what could I do to honor them and finally came up with this idea and I think they'd like it too but also don't want me to dwell on them being gone too. I'm trying to move on but it's really hard but I'm working on it. My husband told me yesterday that he's really proud of me for getting up and moving around doing things the past few days. I'm trying!

Its been hard sometimes these last couple of years without my mom, but I can't think of any way, like your garden, to remember her. For one, I'm not much of a gardener (think - allergic to the planet), and two, she really wasn't either... I'm not going to take up golf, but I think of her when ever I see anything about golf. She and I both admired Tiger Woods, I'm so glad she didn't see his "come down".

Thanks! My mom loved gardening too and wanted to do a lot of it when she and dad bought this house in 2007 but she had a stroke and couldn't. I was going to do it for her as she wanted it done but there just wasn't enough hours in a day to do everything but at least hubby and I kept her place decent and clean.

Good to hear about your memory garden. I hope your parents will surely like it. As you mentioned both of your parents have different taste and still you remember about their favorites. That's great.
