Do you have a fire pit?

We had our 2nd bonfire of the season yesterday.. much more successful than our first. The first it was really still too cold and everything was still too wet.
But yesterday hubby was out doing some yard work and finished cutting down a tree that fell a few months ago, as well as chopped up other trees we'd cut down, and he took out a few bushes.
In our attempts to reclaim our lawn from the overgrown vegetation, we've really just re-cluttered it with branches, logs, and felled trees. It's just slightly more organized as our sticks and logs are in a couple of piles on one side of the yard.
So, while hubby was chopping up trees, I started a fire to start getting rid of some of the wood. We kept the fire going most of the afternoon. Then, after the kids were in bed we went out and started another one.
We've got enough wood in our yard to keep our fires going all summer long! I am looking forward to it. It's so nice sitting out by the fire at night.. but last night was really cold. I can't wait till it warms up a little.
Do you have fires in the summer? Have you had one yet this year?

It would be unwise to have a fire here in the summer (in fact, I think the last legal date for a fire is approaching fast) due to the huge fire risk, but we occasionally have an outdoor fire outside the ban period in an old washing machine drum.
As we heat and cook on wood, firewood is too precious to burn inefficiently!

I can understand that. Do you burn your trash or anything else, or is that illegal there? It is illegal here, but some people do it if they live far enough out.

We don't but I would love to have them, have several ideas for one when we get the chance to build one.

We got ours on clearance last year for like $25! We've definitely gotten a lot of use out of it.

I do have a fire pit. haven't used it yet this year since we have LOTS of rain right now. but I can't wait to. I have plans for this summer. lots of cookouts and bon fires! it sounds so fun. we just put the trampoline back up for the summer after taking it down for the winter and cleaned out the hot tub and got that together so I am excited for warmer weather ahead. we're from Michigan so you never know what to expect. yesterday it was snowing! my 8 year old says "Mom, I thought it was spring?!" lol. then he goes to my older sons room and wakes him up from his nap and says to him "You slept all the way til Christmas! look its snowing!!" lol. gotta love michigan. today its warmer out but a little wet from rain. I'll be happy when we're in the 70's!

Hope your weather dries up a little bit soon so you can have your bon fires!

We always have fires! The last place I lived, when my kids would tell someone where they lived, they always would say "oh, the place that always has the bon fires?!"
I moved and still enjoy them, I think it's something I liked doing as a kid, we would have a weenie roast out there, roasting hot dogs, marshmallows, taking out drinks and other things and just spend a whole day outside.
My kids like doing it now and they even put tents up and invite friends over. I haven't had one yet this year, it's too cold here. Today seems like a really nice day for it but I like to stay up late when I do this so I should maybe wait for the weekend.

No, we are not allowed to have fires or burn anything in the community where I live. At the Villa though, we have wonderful fires on the beach where they guests sit around and toast marshmallows and have drinks and often dinner on the beach. They love it. We are so careful of fires because of our sugar cane and other crops plus bush fires can be so dangerous.

I don't personally have a fire pit but my sister does and we have had two fires so far this year at her house. We love it. Its so relaxing and fun. We just sit out there and talk while the kids play outside, its nice. I'm sure we will be having plenty more! :)

I let the kids roast hot dogs over the fire tonight!

Hubby starts fires in our fire stove often. He even burns the cardboard from food items instead of letting me take it to recycle. We bought a kind of firebox or cage for fires. We have to be careful because of drought and burn bans. The fires are nice, though.

We've been using paper and cardboard to get ours started, but we've got plenty of wood to burn so we don't need to burn many recyclables. I do love watching the fires.
It's beautiful outside today and I'm seriously debating going out and starting a fire even though hubby won't be home till late tonight!

Yes I do have a fire pit in my yard but we rarely ever use it and I think the only time we do is when my stepdad has trimmed some branches off the trees and he wants to burn it to get rid of it. My friends and I have had some bonfires out there but it has been very few. As of right now there is still a lot of snow on the ground in my area so there won't be any bonfires anywhere near me for a little while longer.
Hopefully I will go to at least one bonfire though this summer with some friends and enjoy the night.

I definitely wouldn't call the burning that we've done in the fire pit a bon fire, but we do have one and we do like to burn in it from time to time. We will typically roast marshmallows or hot dogs when we have a fire going.
Now I do have a lot of friends that live down in the country and they will have real bonfires and I do always think that is a lot of fun as well. When it comes to logs and such, we have a fireplace in our house and we will split them and let them age so that we can burn them in the house during the winter.
