Finally watched it, not at all what I expected...

I've been sitting on this NetFlix movie for months, "Million Dollar Baby" with Hillary Swank. It's about a young woman who wants to become a boxing star. It also has Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman in it. I was expecting your typical sports triumph movie. Young woman has ambition to be a champion boxer, tough guy reluctantly agrees to train her, she learns some hard lessons on her way to becoming a huge success. Well, I will not spoil it for you if you haven't seen it, but it didn't end that way at all. How often do you watch a movie, and it's totally different from your expectations? Not bad, mind you, just not at all what you thought it would be?

I have seen it with too much expectations. But after watching, I felt pretty bad. I think, the writer just overwrite that story. She should have been saved like many other movies, where someone even survive from a bomb blast in car. I don't like that type of movie like Million Dollar baby. It's not worth it

I haven't seen it either, though I know how it ends. What I think of the movie would have a lot to do with the slant of how the ending was perceived. Was it perceived as something tragic or something that should be more commonplace? I'm in the former camp rather than the latter.

Deepak2j, like dawnald has indicated, you should not describe much about the movie including the ending. There are people who have not seen the movies.

Million Dollar Baby - PG rated. Starring Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Hillary Swank
This movie kind of remind me of another similar boxing movie, The Champ starring Jon Voight. I am a fan of Clint Eastwood but I have to say that this movie did not really bring out the actor I have come to enjoy in movies like the Trilogy, Dirty Harry, Firefox, In the Line of Fire or the Gran Torino. Not forgetting, Morgan Freeman's role, too. However, Hillary did deserve the credit for her performance which I believe is quite demanding physically and mentally - script wise. And, I do agree with you that the ending is really somewhat unexpected.

The Champ - 1979 Movie starring Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway
It's a movie quite some time ago, starring Jon Voight and Faye Dunaway. Prepare a box of Kleenex if you are going to watch this rather touching movie.

To be honest I haven't seen it, not my kind of film to be honest, I am not a big Clint Eastwood fan, although it's certainly a novel concept for a young woman to have an ambition to be a champion boxer. Mum and I usually watch a movie on a Tuesday night, we have built up quite a collection of dvds. There's been a few films that we have been surprised by and have differed from our expectation. But then doesn't that add to the enjoyment of the film?

yes, it does. I had really expected one of those rah rah films where some athlete against all odds ends up triumphant after many trials, end movie. And it took an entirely different turn, but it was a pretty good movie. I'm not really an Eastwood fan either...

I haven't seen that. I think that is one of those movies that my boyfriend has vowed to "never" watch. He cannot stand Clint Eastwood, so I think that he will maintain that vow. I watched House of Games yesterday. It was one that my boyfriend had recorded. He and I have somewhat different views when it comes to movies... The movie turned out to be a bit different than I expected; I wasn't expecting much out of it, but it didn't even bother to deliver that much. I think that my definition of "twist-laden" is different than that of the person who wrote the description for that movie.

It's a bit of David Mamet's work--complete with the horrible dialogue. No one talks like that. A psychiatrist gets pulled into the world of a con man. I found it to be fairly obvious, and the "solution" was the easy way out. There are a few easy ways out of a story that are taken when a writer is being lazy; I felt that was what was done in this movie.

I do not remember how it ends because I fell asleep whilst watching it. Wasn't impressed as I wasn't disappointed in not seeing the end. I watched dirty Dancing again on tv last night and enjoyed it all over again. There was one movie on the ovie channel that I avoided as I thought it would not be interesting but at this moment I cannot remember the name. Oh and the elizabeth Taylor movie I thought would be fabulous but to me it was a colossal failure.

It was shown a couple of months ago but come to think of it, it may have been produced just for television. do they do that?

Hi, I have seen it around 2005 on a DVD but I have misplaced it, maybe it is around the shelf gathering dust. I think there was a sad ending to it but with a moral lesson too. I like the Freeman-Eastwood combination, been always a fan of them since I was a boy.

Yes, very sad. What do you think the moral lesson was?

The moral lesson I learned is the dedication to a fallen athlete, even if she was an invalid, they still tried to save her life at great cost, thus the title.

From what I've heard about this movie, I would have been happier with another ending to it. Since I don't want to spoil it for others, I'll leave it at that. I haven't seen it yet but, likely, will as soon as it either comes on TV where I can get it or else when I get a DVD player and can either rent it or check it out at the library.

Yes, it had a very different ending than one might expect. I would have preferred the one you described in some ways but could relate some to the ending that was used because of some family occurrence. I thought it was a very good movie and I was surprised that I like Hillary Swank in it since I didn't think I would from what I had heard about her career up till then. Clint Eastwood has turned out and starred in several really great movies in his later career. One I thought was really good was Grand Torino. Not only was I impressed by his producing and acting in that movie but a couple of the unheard of stars in it were excellent.

Unfortunately, I don't have too much time to watch movies except at night and then I am so tired I am asleep within 10 minutes. That is a movie that I have always been interested in seeing. I really like Hillary Swank, both as an actress and a person, so maybe this is one movie I will have to make time for.

IWhen I saw Million Dollar Baby, I did not know what to expect because I hadn`t heard anything about it except that Clint Eastwood was on it and I like him very much. For me this movie had not much to do with boxing, but with relations between human beings. And I found it one of the films I would recomend to anyone. I did not answer telling how it ended either

There have been a lot of movies that I've waited for a long time to see and when I finally do get around to watching those movies I'm surprised to see that the movie is not really what I expected at all. However there are other times that I'm shocked to see that there are movies that turn out to be a lot better than what I really thought that it was going to be. So, was the movie better or worse than what you expected it to be?

i often watch a movie twice a month,i mean in the cinema.i like watching movies so i always download some classic ones from the computer.in my opinion, the movies of today are not as excellent as previous ones.there are only exaggerated stories and blinding high technologies in them rather than some substantial things which can touch people.although there are many so called great movies presenting every month, i just watch one or two of them which is really worthy to .

I saw this on theater years ago. I didn't like the ending either. The fact that it won Oscar for Best Picture in 2005 was somewhat puzzling, but the Oscar voters for this category tend to be people in grandpa & grandma's age. Still, it was a good movie, but it wasn't really worthy of The Best Picture, in my opinion. Again, this is not the only movie where I don't agree with the Oscar voters.

Its a great movie, just like Gran Torino. I am a big fan of both Clint Eastwood & Morgan freeman ,and both of them are superb in this one.Lots of scenes in this movie are unforgettable,my favorite though is the one in which Eddie(Morgan freeman) knocks out the bully boxer. They have portrayed the emotions beautifully in this movie like ,Frankie(Clint Eastwood) is a tough guy and pretends to be emotionless but he is actually quite emotional. He is just reluctant to train people because he gets attached to them. This movie is a treat for movie buffs.Best wishes.

Well, even though I have not seen this movie, I've already heard of such "Million Dollar Baby." All in all, I do not even know the plot. The cast of actors, however, is more than valid. It seems to me that my friend from where I go to his house almost every night, he said he wanted to see it. You still have done well not to tell the whole story with the ending included, otherwise you'd threatened to "ruin" the surprise to those people like me, who have not yet seen this movie. I hope that the movie was to your liking!

It happens to me all the time when I get on Netflix. I see a summary and title, dig in and then I'm left going WTF. I haven't watched that movie and not sure if it's my genre or not. I'd have to give it a chance and find out.

That movie for me would be the movie called Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis. Usually I am very good at guessing what's going to happen next or how a movie will end, but that was not the case with this movie. I was totally blown away by it's ending & never once did I come close to guessing that that's how it would end. To me that's what makes a movie a really good movie, when it ends in a way that you never expected.
