Would Anne Frank have been a 'belieber'?

Apparently there's a big rumpus because of a comment Justin Bieber wrote in the guest book at the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam.
He is said to have written "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."
It sounds to me like a whole load of fuss over very little. There's a good chance Anne Frank WOULD have been a Justin Bieber fan had she been a 15 year old girl today after all. I mean, aren't loads of 15 year old girls? And regardless of your feelings towards Justin Bieber's music, is that really such a bad thing?
What do you think?

It might have been a pompous thing to say.. but I agree it's not worth the fuss. He's just a kid, and might not even understand the full impact of the holocaust and all that since he is still just a kid. I think people are taking this out of context.. I think he just means he wishes she'd had a better life and been able to been a fan of pop music.. that sort of thing. The media just looks for these stupid little things to make big deals out of.

what do you expect a celebrity to say. they get to say stupid things and make a profit off of it. they know it, too.

I don't see how he's profiting from this. The media doesn't pay him when they write about him. All that matters are if people are buying his albums and going to his concerts, etc.. and bad publicity doesn't help sales.

The bad thing is that he went through the museum and came out so unaffected that he was still thinking of himself. He's 19 years old and I know we're all stupid at that age and self-absorbed but that he could think of his career and be such a narcissist after see that is appalling.
On the other hand, that boy has been pushed into show business--or enabled, whatever--since he was little more than a baby. He's been insulated and surrounded by adoring adults, his entire world is his career. It's no wonder he could not think any thought outside the confines of show business and his own self-perceived importance.
Sad, and disgusting.

Doesn't he get enough Ego stroking as it is that he couldn't accept being #2 in that situation without playing oneupmanship?

It may not have been his intention, but the fallout suggests a bit less "Me Me Me" in his attitude (and response) would have been more appropriate..Some situations call for personal decorum and showing respect..for future reference,He should mark this one down as having crossed the line.

To many its just disrespectful. A day in the life of Anne Frank consisted of no music or good times. He should be more mindful of his comments about people like Anne Frank. I'm sure he lost that many more fans over this comment- thanks goodness I have never been a fan of his.

He may not of intended it, but that was the outcome. There is already so much controversy STILL over the Holocaust....he should of thought before he spoke on this one.
I guess it's a comment you can expect from a self-centered spoiled celebrity.

Really!? Is that all it was? They mentioned on the news this morning that people were angry at something he'd said about Anne Frank, but I missed that part. I was expecting a lot worse. People will jump at any chance they can to b1tch about nothing especially when it comes to celebrities.

Personally I can't see all the fuss in Justin Bieber, I can't stand him, but then I am not a 15 year old girlie. Each to their own and all that, but I think they've blown it all out of proportion, and yes a lot of fuss about nothing, he wasn't being blatantly disrespectful and he wasn't being rude. In actual fact I found the words touching and caring, with no hint of malice or disrespect.

I heard a radio guy mention this the other day. His comment was, "He's 17. What do you expect?"
I expect him to have kept his ego in check and to show some respect.

I don't think it was intended disrespectfully, even though it wasn't his brightest move.
Anne Frank's story moves us because she was a ordinary teenager who found herself in a terrible situation. She liked ordinary things and was an ordinary girl before the story of her persecution and hiding begins. If she were an ordinary girl today, she may well like an ordinary teen singer. What would be so bad about her liking Justin Bieber if she were here today?

I do agree with you. I mean, it wasn't the smartest thing to do but I don't really think he meant any type of harm or disrespect at all.
He mentioned (and I don't know how true this is) that there were some celebrity pictures cut out of magazines up on her wall and that's why he said that. She was just a young girl with the hopes and dreams of many young girls at that age, and not that much younger than him.
Too much ruckus over this and not worth all the air time.

I've been to the museum, but I can't honestly remember that. However, it's what I've been trying to get at. She was a teenager, and teenagers tend to like pop stars. If she were to live today, she may well be a Justin Bieber. I can't say I'd even recognise him on the street myself, but suggesting someone might like him is far from being disrespectful.

Hello GM.,
When you are that age famous or not I don´t really think we give much thought to some things that we say.
We dream a lot too at that age so it was probably wishful thinking for her to have been a fan of his. I wish she had lived to have been a fan of his and not ended up the way she did after so much suffering.
Wishful thinking of mine but if she had been a fan of his the World would have been totally different than what it was then.
Not a great fan of his he´s okay but I don´t go wild over him but I think he means no harm its not his fault he is famous at that age.
Spanish girl here is practically a Rock Star and she is just 8 years of age.
Another thing when we are fifteen most of us do not have the same view as an adult does of situations like Anne Frank had to live.xxx

I think that if he had been over twenty something he would have or might have thought it out better but I think also it being on a spur of the moment thing he probably wanted to bite his lip after.
We can all blurt things out sometimes that we never mean to say and the younger we are the more we do it without thinking sometimes.
This was never my case hardly ever but it does not mean to say that I did not feel like saying certain things either I just bit my lip in time put it like that.xxx

I'm not a Justin Beiber fan, but I agree that this is just 'a whole load of fuss over very little'. I get that it was a different time back then, and the circumstances were different, but if AF was a 15 old today and she didn't have to worry about the holocaust, then I wouldn't be surprised if she was indeed a belieber!
I also get that young boys do stupid things sometimes. This incident just sounds to me like a normal error in judgement by a young kid. It was just magnified because he is a star.

I honestly believe people are being too hard on this KID! I'm sure he didn't mean any disrespect, all his actions and comments are dissected so much...and I'm not a Justin Beiber fan.

It is a huge fuss because he does not get it!She was And Is Jewish! So sorry but she can't be made Christian so it will suit him better. And besides the Nazis were killing " Believers" too. Of the 11 million , there were Catholics that were killed!

I cannot stand Justin Bieber, The point that you make about her age does make sense that if she were that age now, then yeah she may have been, is not why his statement is so wrong. He is just so full of himself that he has to make everything about himself. It would have been completely different if he had phrased it as " i hope she would have liked my music" but instead he just had to use such a stupid term that means a fanatical devotee of him, it means "believer of Bieber" basically. The term was just over the top and inappropriate to use. He just is over the top egotistical with the statement.
