I know someone who works for both the parent and subsidiary companies, yet he only gets compensated from the parent. Is this even morally right? I learned from someone, that its ok as long as the job that he is doing is still connected with his original job. That's crap I say. That's two different companies that this person is working for and yet he is only compensated by the parent company. The subsidiary company is earning separately but still my friends is not compensated from this subsidiary doing different jobs.

That is so unfair. He should stand up for his own rights because nobody else will do that for him. They are doing that to him because he lets them to get away with it. I used to have an office mate who is exactly the same as your acquaintance. And she gets compensated for doing the books of the subsidiary.

There is no way I would work for 2 companies, and the 2nd company don't pay me, I would have to let on of those companies go, I don't care what connection, there is with these 2 companies, I would either get paid, or one job I would have to, let go plain and simple.

Hi Aileen2008! Have you asked your friend how much he's receiving? Perhaps the pay is high enough with the thought of "working in two companies". Since it is a subsidiary, the profit goes to the parent and does the parent have the ultimate control over all employees. There's a thought of it is only one company because the sub is just a little version of the parent company. Ironically, I guess that's also the reason why people think they are like working in two different companies. Hope this could give another light to your concern.
