Many Filipinos are not aware of what a welfare fund is. In my understanding, it’s part of the budget of the government where it supporters a section of society in the way of taxes. For example, if you are unemployed, sick or in any no condition to work, you can be entitled to have some benefits. The one paying for your daily needs is the government and the money comes from taxers collect from people. To put it into practical perspective, it works like your Philhealth or GSIS/SSS - everybody contributes but in the welfare fund, you don’t necessarily can use the benefits unless you fall into a particular condition.
If this idea is implemented in the Phils., what do you think will happen?

I think welfare fund was precisely the idea in the Magna Carta for the Poor which was vetoes by the president because the government has no means to implement the fund. This was recently in the news and many of the less fortunate were sad that that the welfare fund was not approved. However, lets be practical since at this point in time the government is not really equipped to meet the needs of the poor. There is also a good possibility that the welfare fund will be abused wherein even those who are not deserving will enjoy the benefits that should only go to the poor.

practicality should also be considered ta this time. It's a good idea but if it causes more problems along the way, I guess it's good to be cautious at this post.

I think in America welfare fund is ended in 1996 but the other way to survive is through disability. If welfare continues forever, then the government would appear like a chump. Disability checks from the government in America go to 14 million people every month. Hence, the next big thing to come is disability.

I'm not aware of that but it's nice to know. Why did America ended the welfare except for disability?

That may be a good idea like that in the US where the Government is implementing this. But that is if we can afford it at the moment. I know US government is taking it from the Social Security contribution of the working class. If it would be implementing it in here would anyone working be willing to donate part of their salaries to the fund? You know we have SSS/GSIS, Pag-Ibig fund, Philhealth and withholding taxes being taken away from our salaries already it would mean that there would be additional deductions that would be deducted on our salaries to pay for those indigents. The question is are we willing to do it. For the high salaried employees then I guess it would not matter but what about those that are not?

That is the question to be answered. I guess the only thing to confirm this is to ask the people themselves via a legal process. Then, that's the only thing we know if this is acceptable by the public or not.

It sounds good to me our government should think about this too.Have you heard of the Senior's citizen's benefits too?It helps a lot specially to our elderly citizens which belongs to the 60 years old and above age bracket. They have discount if they buy medicines but they should have prescription from their doctors. They have discounts too on food, bus fare and some restaurants.

My grandfather has one but doesn't use it because he doesn't like going outside (he might risk accidents he says) so we do that for his medicine. At least, he reaps the benefits and the joys of being a senior citizen.

I'm not sure, it sounds good but I feel it will produce lots of parasites. However, there should really be a welfare fund. I hope the government will monitor poor families and really find ways to help them survive.

Well, it's kinda expected that some might be too dependent on it. Of course it might be balance on paper and theory. But when it comes ot practice, it might be, different.

I agree. The next question to ask if we can afford it and if the public agrees with a set scheme.
