I have seen that the link appears to download the you-tube videos when I have a download manager installed in my laptop. So I get the video downloaded to my system hard drive.
I have read that you tube do not permit the users to download the videos. It is good if it allows the users, because it is not a copyright product, so everyone should be allowed to use it. You-tube want to earn the money with the ads, and which is dependent on the traffic on the website. I think it should be allowed to download the videos. What do you think, Is it okay to download the video to my hard drive? Do you do it?

Hi dear, thanks for commenting on my discussion. It has been a long time since you posted this, so I am sorry for making you wait for response. Well, as per the current scenario of Youtube, you can download the videos by simply putting the letters 'ss' before 'youtube' in the address bar. I think it is legitimate to download the videos.

Hi dear, sorry for late reply. I see that you are from China, and I heard that China uses some of their own kind of Youtube version now. Is it true? And, back to discussion, you made a very good point.
Some videos are downloadable, while others are not. So it is clear now, that we can download certain videos while not the others, because their owners intends so. Thanks for the reply.

I guess it is.. although i also download videos from youtube without the permission of the video uploader. I think they should be ready fr that anyway- since they did upload it in a public website..and besides i am not downloading it or public use, just for myself.

Hi dear,
Sorry for late reply. Back to your point, that is what I do, I also download for personal use. However, I see people re-uploading the videos that they download from the youtube itself, just to make some money or getting views, that seems so un-ethical.
I upload my own videos now. I sing Bollywood songs and play guitar.

Hey sanjay.
i did not knwo we were able to download youtube videos. If it is possible, i'll definitly do it. However i think it is okay for personal use but over here, i mean personal use and in for individual and not for during parties and stuff.
however, i think since internet is very common nowadays, it should be alright to just play the video directly from youtube.

Hi dear,
Sorry for making you wait. It is good to see a person commenting on my discussion from Singapore. Well, back to topic, since it is been a long time, now I see that I can easily download some videos because perhaps they are allowed. While some of the videos can not be downloaded because their owners intends so. Youtube has become more interesting now. I have my own channel, where I post my cover song videos. I learn guitar and sing song, and one day when I am famous, I can earn big money.

It's incorrect to say that videos are "not a copyright product" and that anyone should be able to use any video for any purpose ... however, if you read the Terms for Youtube, it will give you their answer your question. For example, in the section entitled "Your Use of Content" it states:
"Content is provided to you AS IS. You may access Content for your information and personal use solely as intended through the provided functionality of the Service and as permitted under these Terms of Service. You shall not download any Content unless you see a “download” or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content. You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content. YouTube and its licensors reserve all rights not expressly granted in and to the Service and the Content."
You can read the rest of the Terms here: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms
Hope that helps

I am not very sure about that. I guess it is okay, as long as you also ask for permission from the user, especially if the video is made by him or her... So he or she will be informed. Since the person spent hours making the video.

I also support your point, about the study material. the study materials for the students and the teachers should be available to download. The material is generally created by the professors and they have created it only for the purpose of distribution. So that the large mass of population gets benefited from it.
