Who is THIS??!?!?

I received a text from a caller that was not stored in my phone..and had NO CLUE who it was! Does this ever happen to you? With the day and age of cell phone technology we are in at times its hard to keep track of peoples phone numbers when you update your phone to a newer model. I received a text today that simply said "Hope you are feeling better". The number was not stored into my phone so I had no clue who it was. After staring at it blankly trying to figure it out...I text them back and just said "Who is this?". Well to my surprise it was a facebook friend of mine. He has my number now because my facebook is linked to my iphone. I wish facebook would tell you that they will link everything even if you are just using your phone number for security or verification purposes. Luckily it was someone I didn't mind hearing from. But I am not sure if I want to keep my phone number on my facebook now for fear of someone getting it that I would mind having it. So have you ever received a text or phone call on your cell phone and had no clue who it was? How did you handle it? Was it surprising to you to find out if it was a friend of yours or not?

Yes quite several times particularly on my oldest phone number which I had retained for years. Sometimes, its from a friend who got my number from a common friend but there were some who were total strangers and I was wondering how they were able to get my number.

Mis-dialed numbers I don't mind- I know that can happen every now and then although it should happen much less because people usually dial others from stored numbers in their phones.

What's annoying were calls offering something and am really wondering how they were able to get my number. I just ignore these as I won't opt going under too much hassle in texting all my friends that I've changed my number.

I seem to get a lot of texts from tele marketers. I don't know how they get my number because I don't have it linked to anything and seldom give it out. I use it mainly for emergency's and calling cabs. I just delete them and forget them.

oftenly we received mgs from unknown numbers. usually we ignore them but some time we have to face strange situation from such kind of anyone . we become depressed to read the text which includes vulgore kind of material or some teaseing material. so to avoide this kind of situation what will be the best procedure. if someone do this he should be feel a lot of shame.

I have my number on facebook for verification but I think I have it blocked so no one can see it but me. I think you can change the settings in either privacy or settings buttons. Yes I have received calls from people I don't know. At times I found out that is was a school, bill collector, or just a friend.

I'll have to check into those settings! Thanks for the tip. Although it was someone I didn't mind calling- I just don't like to idea of anyone having my phone number that I did not give it to personally.

Oh, yes!!! One asked me if I felt up to a visit from them. I have no idea who it was, because I don't respond. I use a pre-paid phone, however, and, since my granddaughter texts me, I always look at the texts I receive, and that uses up my minutes for no good reason. I've had this phone for several years, so I believe it is a misdialed number.

If I got a text from an unknown caller asking if I was up for a visit from there I would immediately look around to make sure no one was peeking thru my windows...LOL

It is a normal thing which occurs with many peoples, I also have this experience and just ignore it however some times I ask back by sending a text to them or calling back but mostly I simply ignore them.

well in this particular instance I did text back because it was odd to me for someone I didn't know to text me and simply say hope you are feeling better- since I had been under the weather most of the week. I'm was presently surprised by who it was...but wanted to share here to see if anyone shared similar experiences.

it is not advisable to share personal info in any social network especially phone numbers, home address, and office address.

It was not shared on any social site. I downloaded the new facebook app and when it synced this is what happened. No warning or anything...but thanks for the advice...Im already aware of that.

well that would make sense since you use your phone for business. I do NOT. Its my personal cell phone and I am very careful who I give it to. I just think facebook should warn that it allows this information to be seen when you download an app and sign in from your phone :(

Yes, I have experienced receiving text messages from unknown numbers, but usually it's all from those people I know who got a new number and didn't realize that they haven't informed me of their new numbers. I hardly get texts from people I don't know, calls maybe from telemarketers. And also, I make sure that I do not reveal or put a lot of information on any of my online sites. Just to be on the safe side.

My friends are great about updating. They usually send out a mass text that they have changed their phone numbers. Or they will post on facebook to text them with your name because they have a new phone now :)

Hi WWW I would of been concerned just like you, I am probably one of the few people that DO NOT belong to Face Book for this very reason. I had watched a show about Face Book it was how the I believe it is two young men, correct me if I am wrong these two young men (who founded Facebook) have all the rights to your personal information, they actually own it, when I heard this I had a red flag pop up also there was a story about a Teacher who had confided in a friend about a student the next thing you know she lost her job. She said she automatically assumed she was in a private conversation, and had no idea anyone else would know how she was just venting to a friend, for me these were enough reasons why I did not join I never like to bash anything but for me I am a little nervous each time I hear anything about the privacy issues they seem to have.

Yes I did hear something to this affect a few months ago. I think its kind of creepy that everything you have posted or uploaded to your facebook now belongs to them. I am seriously considering giving up my facebook. There was also that controversy over that app Instagram- how they were going to start selling and profiting from whatever pictures any users posted on there. Its crazy what you can get away with on the internet.

I have received messages like this for several times already. Twice the sender even called me a name that wasn't my name, so I'm guessing that they must have been sent to my number by accident. I also have friends who would sometimes borrow my phone and ask if they can text through it because they ran out of cellphone load, so maybe one of the people they texted thought that my number was m friend's number and texted me.

Yes I used to have friends that would ask me to text from my phone- I hate that! My phone is personal to me. Not that I have anything to hide, but there is no need for anyone but me to be all up in my phone.
