As you all know I have three dogs at home, two are in front of the house while the labrador is at the back where we have our "dirty kitchen." Although my help splashes their pee with water everyday, still I could smell the stink of pee getting into the house. Are there cheap ways of removing the stink of urine my dogs make everyday? We would sometimes splash it with water used in laundry but still I can smell the pungent urine stink. Any suggestions?

Hi Cutie, I don't know your situation, are you allowing the dogs to go in your home? Like you are using dog pads, but perhaps they are missing the spot? If so, the cheapest and safest is vinegar, it will neutralize the odor. If you want to prevent the dogs from going inside and remove the smell, there are oxidizing products that remove the smell not only for you, but for the dogs. You can't just cover the smell, dogs have very good noses and when they "mark" their territory, you will have to make sure that odor is gone or they'll just keep going in the same spot.

We used to have a neighbor who's dog peed on our door. And note that we live in a block of flats! We asked that neighbor nicely to keep the dog on leash and do not let him mark at our door. But the owner didn't do anything so we had to change this by ourselves. My wife sprayed the area with vinegar for a few days in a row. Dogs don't like the smell of vinegar and they don't urinate in a place where the vinegar smell is present. I think this will work for your dogs too. First, clean the place well, then start to spray the area with vinegar. They will surely get rid of the bad habit of peeing close to the house.

Yeah, Octav, vinegar is one cheap way to deal with pet pee. I just learned this technique from the other members. Thanks.

Oh, my fault! I haven't read the other responses. Now I see you had already found out about this remedy. I am curious if it works for your dogs. Please come back with a discussion about the result!

I know our cat, bless her who's nearly blind, doesn't always get to her litter tray and she often pees on the floor, what mum does is uses Dettol a detergent which takes away the smell of pee and that awful acrid smell of ammonia. It's pleasant smelling and I know it can be bought cheaply here, not sure if it's available where you are, but I am sure there must be an alternative.

Dettol? I have not seen that brand in our supermarket Wolfie. I would like to buy that if it is available here.

I have heard from some friends that they removed the smell with vinegar and water. They had old labradors and they started to pee in a corner of the dining room. As for my own Misty, she never came inside the house. We loved each other but where I live, climate permits a dog to be outside the year around.

Same situation here. Our sofa in the house always peed by our dogs. I don't why maybe because they have left a mark on it already. Anyways, the best way to remove dog pee stink is that you repeatedly wash on it, put some fabric conditioner and the most important part is let it dry out out in the sunlight. Especially now that it is summer it is good to dry it out in the sun. And base on my experience the stink is out, well atleast on a human olfactory function. Hehehe. Try it out my friend.

Pee on the sofa can be really tough to remove. My problem is just the pee they make outside the house.

i DON' T HAVE A NATURAL WAY TO STOP IT, BUT LYSOL DISINFECTANT SPRAY WILL DO IT AND IT ALSO WORKS ON TOMCAT PISS, WHICH IN ONE OF THE STINKIEST SMELLS THERE IS. YOU HAVE TO LOVE ANIMALS TO PUT UP WITH THREE DOGS!! THIS WORKS BUT OTHERS DO NOT.

Hi Cox! I am now using vinegar--it's cheaper and natural so there is no danger of harming anyone.

If it were on clothes, I could tell you to put them in the washer with hot water and apple cider vinegar. That seems to help in that area. Do you have carpeting? I'm wondering if you were to get a shampooer, and put the same vinegar in the shampooer, it might help out with the stench. I'm not entirely certain on this one. It's just a guess.

I have two dogs in the house, it was three a few months ago but one found a new home. For the times when one has an accident in the house I use a spray solution of water, vinegar and Dawn dish soap. Spray it on the area and let it sit just a short few moments and then rub with a damp cloth. It works best if you get to it right away. It is also great for removing doggie stains on the carpet. When you vacumm it helps to first sprinkle baking soda all over the carpet and let it sit for a while before you vacumm. It's a great odor neutralizer. Then, of course, shampoo your carpets on a regular basis. About once a month. It's a never ending battle but if you do these simple routines you can keep ahead of it. Good luck to you.
