Is it better to write everyday or only when the inspiration comes?

Hi! I'd like to ask not all writers but those who create stories, do you think which one is better for a writer? Most of professional authors tell us to write everyday but I never can do that, whatever comes up is really terrible and I enjoy the great travels I make only when inspired. What most of you amateur writers think? (Or even professional authors, if you are here in MyLot that'd be great too )

you can start by having a journal, then you have to write everyday cause you have to write in your journal what happened that day. then in practice you will be a fluid writer. but, writing prized novel, i think it must come with an inspiration. a writer writes most beautifully when inspired.

An online journal or a blog is the way to go. If you schedule your blog posts, you will be forced to write. I'm doing this right now with three 100-word blog posts scheduled to be published at 7am, 11am and 5pm everyday. And it's working. I'm writing and writing. So far, I haven't missed a scheduled post.

There are a lot of fictional writers--if that's what you're going for. Although story writing starts with day dreaming and a spark of inspiration, it is already a fact that these came from the unconscious part of one's brain. The real writer of these stories is the unconscious than the conscious. The unconscious part of the brain is shy, and difficult to capture. When professional writers tell you to write everyday, what they're telling you is to train your unconscious brain to write everyday whenever you want it to, because if you're planning to take up writing professionally, you have to be able to write whenever you want to write, under pressure or not. It is okay to just write whenever you're inspired. But can't you be inspired everyday? In my opinion, being inspired everyday is not such a bad deal. In fact, I think it would be great. Yes, I am serious in taking up the writing business. I have always been a dreamer, and I just have to write those dreams.

I'm terrible about keeping up my writing on a daily basis. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to write or can't think of what I want my characters to be doing. I used to feel guilty when I would read how another author did 20,000 words a day, then I got to thinking a good portion of that has to be garbage. I write when the mood hits and I've got something valid to say. If my readers have to wait for another book, then so be it.

I don't write every day. I think it is better to wait for the inspiration to come.

Hi Katie: As a writer I think that we should not force inspiration. However you could find a moment everyday to get relaxed, it could be your special place when you feel comfortable and try to make inspiration come to you. But of course if you find that you are "empty" and you don't really want to write a line it's better not to force something that won't be natural. The best results come with inspiration. ALVARO

In my opinion you write the best things when you are inspired, but sometimes inspiration comes while you are already writing. So it's relative, but maybe is wiser to have an ispiration before writing since you will not waste your time.

The Writer? - Actually this was me a good few years ago now; and while I did write back then unless I'm mistaken, it could hardly be said I was any kind of writer; poseur certainly!
If it's possible to write every day, then I think perhaps it's a good idea to write every day. But the way I see it - for some, perhaps most writers - this is not possible. What I mean is that without inpsiration, they cannot write, or rather cannot write anything creatively satisfying. Either that or they may find themselves being troubled or oppressed as writers: for after all, the written word has extraordinary power. I'm a writer myself, but I certainly don't write every day, although I'd like to. Writing is not easy for me. In fact I've not written anything original for many months now. At the same time, I like to exercise my writing instincts at various places of the internet, such as here at My Lot, which as I see it is a great creative outlet. And it's very satisfying to write out responses; knowing that once posted they can't be edited or deleted. I love that about My Lot.

Hi katieO, whenever free time you have then you can write, it is better to write in the nights before going to bed, your mind will be calm and if it is upto you whether to write daily or anytime.

Just-in-time writing is somewhat inefficient and it's a sign of a deeper problem in the writer's writing process. It means you don't have the proper techniques for producing enough words at any given time of the day. This is usually the case for those whose primary job or vocation is not writing. You probably picked up the vocation because it's interesting. I've been pondering about this problem for years and years. I think I can write. Or I am conceited enough to believe that I can indeed write. But it takes me a long time to write. What does that mean? I realized that I did not develop the proper techniques. I have read a lot of books about writing. But it wasn't a disciplined study. I just did what I thought was proper. But now (or just recently), I have decided to design a writing process wherein I can really produce on demand. I need this skill for my blogs so I really have to do it. My objective is simple: I need a process to product at least 3,000 words per week.

Hi ! Writing is a gift ! I can't plan when and how many will i be writing for a day. It will depend in the mood that i have . We can never reinforced or force writing , if in mood , you will be surprised ideas are flowing like river . You will be sometimes amazed with the total output. Sometimes you'll be asking yourself how you were able to arrive with the whole output. Sometimes due compulsion we are forced to write but the output are never that good. In writing all we need to have is the mood and the drive.

You can always start with a free writing where you can write down anything that comes in random but i also believe that if you wish to have better writing outputs you should be a wide reader and inspiration also follows.

I think it is better to write everyday. Even if the things you come up when you try to write everyday seem like they're poorly written, writing everyday is a good practice and can prevent "writer's block". There are also writers who say that writing regularly will make inspiration come faster. If you keep on waiting for inspiration and it doesn't come, what will you do?

Hi! I used to think that writing every day will not give any results, and as you say sometime really things come uout terrible whan you force yourself to write everyday. Then I started writing few sentences each day, sometimes more, and somehow as time wnt by I started to realize that things I write (without waiting for insipiration) were not as bad as yo ucould imagine. Of course, still best things come out when inspiration has strike you, but I would suggest you to write, okey maybe not every day, but at least three or four times a week, even without inspiration, because it somehow will improve your skills and will train your imagination.
