Ahhhh, my life bums me a bit right now. I thought things were going smooth with my boyfriend's mom and then she pulls her stuff again. One step forward three steps back, I guess. Anyhow today I was dozing off in my chair when my boyfriend started teasing me. You know the cute and not so cute play that men do to their women? That stuff. He kept poking his finger up my nose while I was sitting there and then he tried to put same finger... in my mouth! Ewwwww! I swatted his hand away and was getting ready to doze off agin when I heard his mom say "Oh my god! If you don't punch her for that I will!" Woah! Over react much? Thankfully my boyfriend stepped in and told her to lay off that he was just playing around and I didn't hurt him. But, it got me thinking... what would I do if she hauled off and hit me? It probably wouldn't floor me or anything because she is 70 and very, very sick. But still, I know we should respect our elders but what happens when your elders treat you like that? Is it correct to push them off you? Not talking about retaliation here, just a push to get away. What about calling the authorities? Would you call the cops because an old person punched you?

I probably would call the cops if it was a pattern and see if I could get her a hearing with the department of aging. Maybe get her declared incompetent. Of course this sounds kind of weird to hear you call her old, as my hubby is nearly that old.

My sister is a year older than hubby and has many of the same health issues, but no strokes yet. I just took her to have an artery cleared out. . . needs to quit smoking. It sounds as if the mom has some brain damage from lack of oxygen with the copd or other damage from the strokes. Walking away sounds very effective, I bet she does not get around well at all.

I would have defended myself certainly and I would not put my fingers up a girlfriend's nose like that

I would have found a way to record it, and taken the recordings to the cops.

Hello Dismalgrin, definitely I would avoid her. I avoid arguing with people I would avoid punching someone. I think she should be medicated. At some age old people get very nervous and fights. Blessings Dismalgrin... dainy

OLd people cause less damage with their punch or s - Better to avoid them then hurting them more.
I guess your have the right to self defence. But if 70 year old person punch or slap will not be hard to cause much damage. It will be more of your ego or pride being hurt. Furthermore , younger person pushing or sholving and old person to the floor may cost the old person more damage. Better to avoid them better than hurting or breaking their bones when they fall down.

I did end up walking out because I was so stressed. I won't leave my boyfriend over it. But walking away from the situations work for me.
