SO first hing first proud Mama moment. My oldest has been invited on a special educational trip through school. She had to have perfect attendance, high honor roll and be nominated by two teachers to be eligible for this trip to South America! only a 100 kids out of the cyber school's 10,000 students where invited. Now on to the topic. Fundraising to send her on said trip of a life time. As an Avon rep I will do a fundraiser for her, and she can sell candy of coarse but we are talking about needing thousands of dollars. All suggestions welcome.

I thought that the invitation meant that her expenses were paid for. What does the school offer? What do you have to get for her? I sent my youngest daughter to the US through the American Field Service and it didn`t cost me anything I couldn`t pay. Why would she need thousands of dollars? How long will she stay and where?

It is an all inclusive trip for just over a week which includes the costs of all the hotels, airfare, food, museum fees, buses etc. The school doesn't have the funding to pay for the trip as PA has cut school funding by millions and ,millions of dollars. The cost though also includes trip insurance and some other fees. It costs just under $4g for her to go and one of us or a relative would go with her as I would not send my then 15 yr. old to South America without a family member. We cyber school so it isn't like we will have even met the teachers going before.

If it is an all inclusive trip, who pays for the all inclusive? I don`t see the good about it if you have to pay everything for your daughter and a relative. It would cost you a lot less for her to go as a normal tourist. I don`t spend that amount going with friends for 2 weeks to 5 star places. By the way, a one week trip to South America is too short a time. I know because I live in SA

Thank you. She was actually talking to a friend of hers who will also be going on the trip. We live not too far from each other and the girls want to do a car wash together in a couple weeks.

That is so cool. I bet she is very excited. I would have yardsales, cooking, your Avon funding, do you have any antiques or vintages items you could sell?, pawning items, any money in your Paypal account, any way to get some things done on line that would go into the Paypal account? About all I can think of right now.

Yes she is very excited! We are planning on the Avon, and we have decided she will make items to sell when we work craft shows and to sell on Etsy. We have worked a plan and we made it clear we expect her to help build up the cash and she is ready to do so.

So they just picked her out of 10,000 students and then said, "OK, pay your way, if you can't afford it someone else will take your place." ? I am confused as that doesn't seem fair at all. What is the purpose in the trip if you have to pay for it? Isn't it kind of like she is just taking a vacation then? I hope they are at least going to match your fundraising amount or offer some sort of scholarship, otherwise it seems like there is no real reward here. Best of luck with the fundraising!

They pay for the entrance fees and a rental fees and a few other things. The government has cut back so much funding they couldn't afford to pay for the whole thing. It is a good thing for her and though it may cost us some money she will get to visit another country, see animals, people, and a way of life she would never see here. They will go to some archeology digs, Darwin living museums, and so much more.
