I just don't like when people say they are busy and have no time. They tend to devote all their time to whatever that appeals to them and justify when they neglect other things that need their attention.

When my wife is around, (usually for a day or two every month) I have no time for anyone or anything else. - all my time is for my wife whether she needs me around or not
And when she is not around, I have plenty of time for all. Unfortunately, due to ill health, I cannot socialize in the way I used to earlier, and over time, people around have realized that despite my inner desires to be there for them, I cannot be. So they too have started not asking me for more. I dont know whether they do this with good intentions or bad, but as a matter of fact, today I dont really care.

Wow thesids. I quite understand your wanting to spend every moment with your wife while she is there. What if I visit you on those days. Will I be totally ignored?
You are the best judge about how effectively you use your time.

In other words, you are not bad as my sister who would make her guests sit in the hall for hours while she is busy with her work. Thanks for your offer. I would not want to disturb the love birds even for a moment!

Unfortunately, it has been years since we had any guests here at our place. And after our marriage, except my parents and brother, no one else has ever visited me. So I dont know what my reaction would be, but I must say, I am not a bad host. So you can always count safe on being here... and NO, you will not be ignored. Instead, it would be a pleasure having you here and serving you my cooked chapatis and food delicacies...
On the lighter sides... ummm... I might plan your sight seeing and visiting the places of interest during much of that time

I know what you mean, but I do believe it is everybodys right to choose what to do and what to neglect. Everybody has a choice what to do with his/hers life and they do. The things a person considers important he will tend to, the things he considers less important or irrelevant he will neglect. Its his right to do so.

"No man is an Island"
[i]No man or woman is an island. To exist just for yourself is meaningless. You can achieve the most satisfaction when you feel related to some greater purpose in life, something greater than yourself.

When doing what one wants to do includes concern for others then this quote does not apply to them.

Doing what you want doesnt equal being isolated at all! It is just that you let yourself decide what you want and not others. Provided you have the right set of values and proper moral codex there is nothing bad in doing what you want. You and you alone are responsible for your happiness. It is selfish to be angry at people for not doing what you want them to do.

I tend to give more time to others than what I do to myself and this has landed me in trouble too. This was quite frequent a few years ago when I used to spend quite some time listening to many sob stories but I have no regrets; Ia m a good listener and people felt good talking to me.I know my work has to be done but I give that much of more attention to many people who value me [especially] because it is not easy to get friendship and relationships in this world.
Now I don't have that much of a social life but still I believe in giving time to people when the occasion arises.
It is not that all people are too busy to do it; they do not have the heart to do it.

There has to be a balance when it comes to sharing our time kala. I have coined this motto - "Love yourself and help save planet earth" If we love our self so many things fall in place.
It is your thought for others that make you go overboard sometimes but when you realise that I am sure you will be back on your feet doing things for yourself as well.
I have learnt to keep things on hold when I have to devote time for others. And this is not done by many. My sister is a clear example of that. She is too commercial. She has a school and has no time to spend with us. I don't go there now. When I did, she would make us sit in her hall for hours while she would be busy with her work. she has her school in her own house.

These type of quotes could be applied to varying situations and this in particular refers to a situation when people do not give their time for activities that need their attention.

Everybody has a different mentality. For that matter, some do not even believe in God. A person would not give anything unto God if he does not even believe in God’s existence.
The modern life is busy and hectic. From childhood itself, we have been told time and time again that we should have an ambition, we should make a lot of money etc. Everybody tells us to become a big materialistic success. Almost nothing is spoken about spiritual success.
Therefore, it is not amazing that people do not give anything in charity. People feel that since they have worked and earned their money, they have every right to enjoy every cent which they earn.

There is never a thing that one does not have time for. Concentrating on just one activity and neglecting others is what I wanted to highlight in this discussion.

i find myself guilty of this. however, today was not so bad. i managed to get some things accomplish instead of just sitting around watching movies. most of it is due to my medication....the laziness. in fact, it may not be lazy at all. i just get use to being low energy. but, today i devoted more time to things that need to be done.

Many people follow the principle ' what can be done today shall never be done' I cannot buy when people say that they do not have time for doing things that are important but are put off with this excuse. Some of the activities require very little time and it is the indifference more than having no time is the cause.
I hope this topic inspired you somewhat!

I read once about the importance of having some time to pursue something important for inner gowth. But now, iut seems that many people seek evation when they are not working (yet another type of escape

One can do plenty in 24 hours and specially those activities that need may be a minute or two could be handled conveniently - activities such as just calling someone and keeping in touch! Such and other activities that could make one's day are totally neglected.

Perhaps these people just aren't as organised as we would like them to be? Things might seem so simple to us, but the same things can be a stumbling block unto others.
The quotation you cited is often misinterpreted. Many use this verse to force their views that Christians must pay taxes & must be subject to authority. It was a totally different story judging by the events at the time.

That is true but sometimes even we can't give to ourself what is due to ourself. Sometimes even to ourself we do injustice. The right thing is to give what is due , to our neighbors , family , to our faith but because human as we are so many task and responsibilities , we are partial in some aspect . We can't balanced everything because of some limitations and human factor.

With proper organisation everything can be handled well. It is just that people work in a haphazard manner resulting in neglecting so many activities that need attention including the time required to give for oneself as you have rightly pointed out. A day has 24 hours that gives time for everything. One should know what is top priority and what can wait.

Well, for me, being a good christian means you should do what you should do to your religion and what you should do to your social life ..
I don't agree either if someone say to busy to do religion thing for their social life .. I mean, life must balance right? You must balance your social and your religion too so your life gonna be better for now and in the heaven ;)

I fully agree with you. I had a cousin who was into bible reading. She would close the door and spend the whole day reading neglecting her children and household chores. In the eyes of God, she has sinned.

I used to always say that I have no time to use my sewing machine. The fact was I never liked stitching. So you are right when you say that one can make time if they want to.
