Does it only affect Chinese members?

Today I learned a news that Yahoo mail in China will be unavailable since August 19 this year. I don't know why they have such kind of rule? Is Yahoo lack of money? I wonder whether it will only affect Chinese users or later it will affect other members? Anyway, it is not a good news even if I don't use Yahoo mail.

According to the news site Wired, Yahoo decided that Chinese users do not need the service because they are using other alternatives. They made an agreement with another company to allow them to run an email service.
There aren't enough users in China, probably because people are using another email provider, and they aren't making enough money to pay for the server.

The Chinese would probably be introducing their own kind of emailing system. I do know that Facebook is not allowed in their country, too.

Yes, youless, that's a good point. I remember some NBA players who went over to China to play basketball and they kept complaining about all the websites that you couldn't get on because China bans it. And everyone was like, hey, you knew that before you accepted the job so don't whine now! They should have expected it.

I have not heard of this news and upon searching, I have only crossed about a news about Yahoo being attacked by China unfairly. Well, I do not want to go in details but it has something to do with freedom of communications I believe. I also cannot confirm if that article was true, it was way back in 2007.
Well, I have receive a spam message before that yahoo is closing and so I needed to provide some details so my account will retain. I did not give any information because I knew already it was just a spam. I will be searching more details and will see if this news is true.

I saw the news and since there are many could-be reasons given, I just do not know which is true. But its US parent have already denied this and said they will continue to operate Yahoo China for 4 more years.

Hi Maybe Yahoo is just doing some maintenance repair in China so members can be served better. I don't think so it is about financial matters , Yahoo is been long here and already a established site. Might be all reorganization in the administration .

hello friend,i was also very surprised to hear the news that yahoo mail will be unavailable near future in China.i saw a notice,it said that alibaba was takeover of yahoo China,so as to thoroughly solve the long-term problems of the development of the localization problem.
I think we use in the future is aliyun mail, rather than yahoo china.it will be a big deal.

Well, I think you are very wise to use other email addresses. Actually, for so many years, I have mainly used yahoo.com.cn email address. So this morning when I received the notification, I was a little shocked. I have to register another email address and make changes in so many websites. Because when I registered in those sites, I used @yahoo.com.cn addresses. I really could not understand why they are going to stop the service. But I have learned a lesson, in the future, I will try to use more common email addresses such as hotmail.com, or yahoo.com.

I've used Yahoo mail as 1 one my addresses for many year and, as yet, I've heard nothing of this sort.
I'm in England, so will hopefully be unaffected.
Luckily, there are many other suppliers to choose from, but if it is the chinese Government blocking it, who will be next?

I am also using Yahoo email for many years. However, I did not receive such news as yet. Probably it will send later or it may not affect my country . I wonder why they take such a step to withdraw from China?
