Gingivitis is the inflammation and bleeding of the gums which can cause pain when brushing the teeth or eating hard food such as apples and contributes to halitosis ( bad breath ) a combination of soft, sugary diet and poor dental hygiene are the number one cause of gingivitis but it may also occur as a complication of a debilitating disease and of vitamin deficiencies. gingivitis could be treated by surgery, dental hygiene and the use of mouthwash and may i add constant flossing of teeth. Gingivitis if left untreated teeth may eventually become loose and fall out. Do you know of any other method of effectively treating gingivitis?

you are right it is very common that people don't take care of there teeth the right way over the years I have let my teeth go for reasons that i wont even go into now i have lost many and it has cost more money to try to fix then just taking care of them from day one

its very ironic cause when years of neglect take a toll on our teeth we cry out for the immediate attention of our long forgotten dentist

have you considered having implants? they're the best alternative to having dentures and i think they last longer than real teeth.

following r simple n most effeective ways-massage ur gums every time after u brush ur teeth.this strenghtens ur gums.gargle 7-8 times after u eat anything ,especially after eating sweet, refined, sticky things like buiscuits, chocolates .this will help remve anything sticking to ur teeth ngums which s the best culture medium to the bacteria. drink atleast 2-3 l of water every day.u have to sip at it n not to gulp. eat atleast 3-4 fruits every day,as vitamin c deficiency is the cause of gingivitis.u can drink plain lime water, dont forget to gargle.add roughage to ur diet,so that u will have proper motions every day.it will improve ur gut flora.exercise regularly, rest well.

I think the best to avoid this, is to take good care of your mouth hygiene. Brush teeth at least twice a day, it's really not good to brush always your teeth. Take mouthwash or anything that cleans your mouth. Also, advice to visit your dentist at least every 6 months. Have it clean and check for decays and problems..

what is the difference between gingivitis and periodontis? i think they are both gum disease.. and if i may add, gum disease could also lead to mouth and brain tumors. not to mention throat infections. that's according to a study i read somewhere.

hello murkie! yup you are correct gingivitis and periodontitis are both diseases of the gums. Gingivitis is the swelling or the inflammation of the gums while periodontitis involves the formation of bacterial plaque between the gums and the roots of the teeth. Gingivitis if left untreated leads to periodontitis. The inflammation progressively destroys the periodontal fibers and the bone that holds the teeth in place. Pus forms in the deep periodontal spaces and eventually the teeth will fall out. Ear infections, nose infections, mouth infections could have a big possibility of affecting the brain cause of their close proximity to the brain and again you are correct could also lead to throat infections. My sister who is a nurse always told me to take care of my teeth, nose and ears cause they are very close to my brain. thank you very much murkie for sharing your knowledge with us!
