I cut my nails with clippers. My husband has not used clippers in the 10+ years that I have known him. I just don't understand how he can tip them or bite them. It has to be uncomfortable right? Even his toe nails. Yuck. They get long then he just rips them off. He chews his finger nails off. His nails are all jagged and rough. Is it normalto not use clippers. I find it very strange. Is it sanitary? I think it is gross.

Yikes! Doesn't it hurt him when he does it like that? I know that it also damages the actual flesh that holds the nails on the side. If he doesn't want to use nail clippers, maybe he can use those small, grooming scissors instead? Anything but his mouth and teeth. Not only is it gross but it can be unhealthy and might cause infections. But in the 10 years or so that he's doing it, could it be tha he's immune to it?

i tried it once to bite and tear off my fingernails. and i wasn't happy about the result. not only did i tear off a large portion which left my finger swollen, i also got a fingernail stuck in between my teeth.
and that was it. i bought my own nail clipper form then on.
i guess it's ok to just bite off your fingernail, if you could manage to remove just the appropriate portion, and not dig deeper into the fingers.
but your toenails? i dunno.. probably if you are alone and no one else will know about it.
