Did you ever see a lost dog and could do nothing about it?

I am sporting the flu and still not dressed for the day. I still could get a lot done around the house to prepare for my upcoming show, but I sit down for a break once in a while just because I'm sick.
So after finishing the laundry and packing clothes for donation I sat down with some hot coffee and fruit and turned on the TV. That's when I noticed a lost black and white boarder collie trying to find his way home. It's snowing and cold today and I could tell the poor thing had been outside even during the preceding rain and sleet. (Minnesota) He was cold and desperate to get back to his safe haven and food and water.
I could do nothing but sit here and worry for his welfare. We have two dogs of our own. This dog had a collar and I couldn't even go out to find out where he lived!!!!
I couldn't focus on anything I wanted to accomplish, too worried about the poor thing.
20 minutes later I saw him trot by again, breaking my heart, but I noticed a white car pull up and a man got out. It turned out to be the owner! He coaxed the poor thing to him and gently took him by the collar and put him in the back seat! I was so relieved!
I sat back and ordered lunch to be delivered! I am so exhausted!

Yes, i had seen a lost dog before when the temperature outside is horrible around my neighborhood, but i couldn't have done anything different like other people except just see him put up with suffering. I know that the lost dog is belong to a person and have saw his owner taken him out for stroll around the neighborhood before, i don't want to tuck my nose in someone business by accusing me trying to steal his lost dog or some sort of made up story if i take the lost dog in for temporary shelter. It is frustrating on my part, i have no choice except keep looking at him wondering around the dangerous busy public street outside in that raining day, sometime pet owners can accuse you of doing harm to their dogs or try to steal their dog if they don't know anything about you and why you have his lost dog inside your house, i just want to avoid that problem as i know some people living in my neighborhood are very prejudice people to someone who is non white person like me.

Oh my goodness!!! I'm so sorry that happens to you! That's not why or how the US was supposed to turn into. "Give me your tired, your hungry and your poor" at the base of the Statue of Liberty. For me and everyone else who remembers this I apologize. Please care for my dog if for some reason she escapes my fenced in yard. I would be ever so greatful!

NO apology from you, it is not you i am fear of, it is those white prejudiced people in my neighborhood that i am talking about. I will have an eye on your lost dog if i see her running around my yard or the public street in front of my home. I may have move to some houses near you next time, since you have no problem with my skin color living close to you. hahaha....

There have been a few times when I have seen a dog walking by or across my yard and wonder if they are lost or just out having a good time! Close to where I work I would see a dog in the morning about in the same place etc...always by himself. One morning one of the guys I work with came in after me and said he had see the little dog laying by the side of the road apparently hit by a car.....my boss called the police to come and pick him up and see if he was okay...turns out he was and lived nearby where we had seen him every morning...but we all did worry about him during working hours!

Unfortunately I see it all too often. The last time I saw one I did try to help. The poor thing was walking along on the main road. And although this road is in a rural area it still gets plenty of traffic. Traffic that often exceeds the speed limit (which by the way is 55 mph). I worried for this little dog. I couldn't just do nothing. However, not only was someone on my bumper, there was nowhere to turn around. So I drove down a ways to a side street I could turn off on.
I turned around and headed the other way. At first I couldn't find the little dog, but eventually spotted him a little further than where I had first seen him. Fortunately no other cars were around at that moment, although there were some coming up, including some semi trucks! I slowed down and called him over. Darn dog ended up crossing to the other side! The other vehicles approached quickly and there was nothing more that I could do. That little dog didn't want to be saved...at least not by a stranger anyway.

I have had found the owner for the dog once, he went to my house and "tried to talk to my dog", he seemed friendly, so I grabbed his collar and checked the tag so I called the owner to take the lost dog back.

it is sad to see dogs run the street like that and in that kind of weather I hope that it was the owner of the lost dog but at the least if not the owner some one like you that is caring enough to pick up the lost dog and take it to where it can be warm till the owner is found

OMG I found a little curr puppy one day whining at the fence outside my property. It was so cute and fat but when I picked it (her) up her face was covered in larvae and maggots, even inside her little eyes. It was terrifying for me to see and I took her to the vet. today. The poor girl actually made it! She is in no shape to run around but she will be healthy one day.
I hope you feel better!
