And on a lighter subject...

If you consider losing half your retirement savings in a scam "light", I am deciding whether to fly down to LA on May 2nd to attend a mediation that may possibly cause me to recover up to 60% of said retirment money. That's $77 each way plus rental car plus a day's lost wages. Think I should go?

I`m sure that your retirement savings are more than that, so it seems that you should go. And I do hope everything works out for you. Luck and take care.

Quite a bit more, but I doubt my presence there will influence the ruling one way or the other.

I know what you mean. I have a money that I can`t get out of the Bank. I have a lawyer, but there`s nothing I can do about it. Except, perhaps, get a lot of stones and go break all its windows And don`t think that I haven`t thought about doing it.

kind of like Cynthie can't get title to the property her husband left her, how annoying...

60% my friend is a big chunk! If you don't go you will always be left wondering, what if, and it's true if you don't try in this world you don't get. So you lose a day's wages plus the cost, if you weigh it up and you are successful, surely that's just a small price to pay?

Have a fellow / ex co-worker set up a webcam so you can see the preceedings?

Only if it's actually going to be worth the expense to get there.

I would be very interested to hear the proceedings, but I doubt my presence will make a difference as to the outcome.

So.. if the case wins you'll get your money back even if you're not there?

Of course you should go. Please go. If you don't you will always wonder if you would have got it back. Follow your instinct and go -it is worth the try

It's not so much the fare as losing a day's pay. The attorney said there would be a good turnout, so I'm going to pass.

An attorney is handling it, and I rather doubt my presence would make a difference, but I would like to hear the discussion.

Yes you should go, as the money in the long run will be far more benefitional. Go now and make those reservations.

I didn't, and airfare is up today. Didn't want to lose the day's pay. I think we have good representation (I hope).

I would go just to assure that I have done everything I possibly could to get my savings back. If your retirement is more than the lost wages and the cost per day it is well worth it. Good luck with it all.

Oh, it's a lot more, but even if I decided to go, I have to put my faith in the attorney that is arguing the case for us.

I'm guessing that $77 times two, plus the car rental, plus the day's lost in wages is still less than than the 60% of the retirement money. Even if it was just a 'possibility'.
So, you should go!
And then just blame everybody here on myLot that suggested you go, if it doesn't turn out well. Put me in for 'person to blame # 1'.

It's much less, but we are being represented by an attorney, and lots of other investors are going, so I decided to pass. I need that day's pay.

If your health permits, you should go, personal presence has great impact; if not you can hire services of a lawyer.

We do have a lawyer arguing the case, and a lot of the investors are attending, so hopefully they can do without me...

Based on your replies to everyone, I see you are not going due to loss of wages for the day. It might have been worth it just so that you can know exactly what is being said but if you really can't afford the pay cut, especially since I also read you are taking a non paid vacation in June, then put your trust in the attorney and expect him to give you full informed details.

basically what I"m doing...
I'm worried about money as September 1 I will have to start paying full price for benefits if I don't get hired here.

Since you say your presence will not make a difference on the results, I suggest you not go and minimise on further losses. And it is not just financial losses, emotional losses as well. It will be a gut-wrenching experience I think, regardless of outcome. Best to hear about it later and not attend live.

I think it would be fascinating, and if I still lived in Los Angeles I would go, but I don't want to lose the day's pay, bottom line.

I assume that 60% is much more than $200, so it's probably worth it, just in satisfaction alone.

No guarantees. The case is being handled by an attorney, and my presence will probably not influence the mediator's decision one way or the other.

If your being there does not affect the outcome then unless you really want to hear about the case I would suggest just staying home and keeping your money and not losing a days wages.
That being said...I really hope you get your money back!

I am convinced by your inquisitiveness here that you should go and I think it would be good to do so.
I know your attorney is handling and about sure to get back your monies provided these scoundrels have not spend it all up or bankrupted. If you want to go, then do go.

Basically, the money is sitting in a bank account. The question is whether the money will go to the FDIC or the investors. It's complicated, but basically the FDIC was the first lienholder on the one property that we were able to get money back out of. They are also the successor to the bank that perpetrated the fraud. Because of that, we are arguing that they should give us the money.
Anyway, I decided not to go, don't want to lose a day's pay when I am already planning an unpaid vacation in June.

I would. I don't know how much you lost but it seems that the cost of attending this mediation is nowhere near as much as you could recover.
Yep, I wouldn't hesitate so my answer is yes, I think you should go.
Good luck!

Ha, well I hesitated, and now airfares have gone up. An attorney is handling the case, and a fair number of the other investors will be there, so I don't think my presence will make a difference. I don't really want to lose the day's pay given that I'm taking an unpaid vacation in June.

I would not do anything like this! Sounds to much like a scam! Don't do it! Play it safe! That is what I would do! I have my retirement fund and there is no way in heck I would mess with it! I have it through work and its not being messed with!

I think you missed the point. This retirement account already was the victim of a scam, and this meeting is a mediation in an attempt to get some of the money back.
