battling the ant issue....

I have mentioned in my other posts that I like the new house we have moved in now except for one thing. It has lots of ants. I noticed this immediately, that we have to secure our food on the table or else ants would be crawling on them. I had to put food in bowls or plates with water in it to prevent ants from getting into the food. Now this is too cumbersome for me so one day I bought a box of ant chalk and started using it on the walls near the dining table and on the legs of the table. So now I can freely put our food on the table without having to put them in bowls or plates with water in them. However, I have to use the chalk after the helper mops the floor because the chalk gets erased when she does this. Anyway, this is still better compared to having ants on my food. How about you? How do you deal with ants?

Here in mexico when one has that problem they mix baking soda and salt. Put in all around where ants are. Works for us here. Good luck !!!

I haven't tried that but that can leave a lot of mess. I think ant chalk is the best.

it's probably the salt that drives them off.. given their size compared to salt granules. i'd freak off too if i see a salt sith that proportion.it's probably the salt that drives them off.. given their size compared to salt granules. i'd freak off too if i see a salt sith that proportion.

Might be, we only had the problem once out back. As we left a box of tomatoes there and forgot to toss them in trash. We put the baking soda and salt.. and the left.

What is the color of the ants ? If it is a red ants then i consider it a bad luck so you drive them out but if it is a black ants then don't drive them out because that is a sign that money is getting in. I am just sharing this for you ,believed it or not , this is proven and tested by me.

My flat iron have ants in it. I don't know it happened and why the ants choose to go in there, but every time I use the flat iron, they started coming out. There is no ants anywhere but in there. That's weird right?

That is really weird. Don't they get cooked?

Inside the iron, no. When they get out and get on the plate while I'm ironing, then they get killed.

one of the things that I would try to do is find something that can be appied to the outside of your home just make sure that it will only harm pest and not any other kind of animail other wise it sounds like a call to pest control like orkan

That can be very cumbersome indeed. However, I am glad that I do not have such problem on my dinning table so far . But, there are some in my wet ketchen wall and table top. Fortunately there are some left over of solution from my previous termites treatment prevention programe. So, I would use that solution to spray over them and it works very well . It will be cleared for a period of time. So far, I did not see it as yet .

I hate using sprays because they could get into our food or we might inhale the solution.

Yeah, since I am not using on the dinning table so it is safe. And I will use it with care and not spray from far . Just a little will do and not doing it often but so far I only did once

We have the same dilemma. There are all sorts of ants in our house: we have the black ants which move really fast and are so fast in getting to the food; the red ones that sting and leave ugly marks; and the little ants that creep into jars and canisters. They get so annoying that I always try to make them go away. I usually use boiling water when they get to the sink. On the table I use those ant chalks, too. Like you, I am also looking for more effective ways to get rid of them. Lately, my kids have been helping me. They use their little fingers on those smaller ants. :)

Every Spring this time of year we have to spray for the big carpenter ants we live in the woods and invariably they come flying in to try and make a nest and eat our house. So we have to spray all around the house foundation, windows and underneath it. Takes about two times before they are gone. Helps to have toads who also eat them and they are finally out again too. We don't have any grease or sugar ants. But have had them in other places.

Hi Cutie18f, Having ants to share you food is no fun. I wouldn't like that either. Anyway, have you tracked down the source of the ants? There may be an ant's next somewhere. I think it would be better to get professional help if you are unable to locate the source. These people can eradicate the problem once and for all. Of course you may have to pay a high price for this. At least you'll eat your food in peace! Have an ant-free day.

It is good to know that the chalk for the ants is indeed effective. Next time i encounter same problem, i know now what to d Usually, we keep all foods after a meal in the refrigerator. Thus, it is safe from ants.

Hi, Put some cucumber peels around the affected areas. I tried and it worked too. Also you may use boric powder mixed in vinegar. Spray this and insecticidal properties in the vinegar help prevent ants.

Hii Cutie.. I hate ants. We also had many. Whenever I see them crawling on the floor I just start dancing on them and kill them all.Lol... But my mom also uses chalk. It helps rather than powder.
