Girls Making Their Uniforms Shorter....

When I was in high school, I could see that most girls..and of course popular girls were sewing their skirts up to make them look shorter. Just the other day at the shopping centre I noticed way more high school girls who have made their school dresses or school skirts even shorter than when I was in school. As a young woman, it bothers me. I know this is what girls do to look good and get attention from guys but it annoys me with how nowadays, this is what young girls think they need to do to look good. It also annoys me that when I went to school, guys would get in trouble for wearing their hats backwards or wearing a jumper that was not the school code but no teacher ever mentioned how girls were wearing their skirts shorter than it should be. Also I notice that these girls tug at the back of their skirts because they are worried too much is showing. Well how about they not hem it up or wear a longer skirt so they aren't always worried about it. Annoys the heck out of me! Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

I knew a girl that went to the local Catholic high school years ago (late 80s) that told me how the nuns used to measure the girls' skirt lengths with a ruler! Now Laurie was quite tall and thin, so the size she would wear appeared to be very short-she couldn't help it! I guess one of parents asked the school to purchase a skirt to compare to one of hers-and she was exonerated! Now I'm on the short side (was 5'3", now 5'2") and I should wear shorter skirts. It also helps if you have nice legs, which I was blessed with, but I usually wear flats. I also never wore short skirts to "attract" anyone. But if I wear a skirt that hits me below my knees, I end up looking dumpy! No one should be pressured to dress sexy.

Hello scorpiobabes! Wow I have never heard that being done before yet it doesn't surprise me. All of a sudden I feel like watching Sister Act haha. Poor Laurie! I hope the girls there weren't cruel to her since it wasn't her fault! I am about 5'2 as well. I don't like wearing skirts that go below my knees but it just doesn't suit me. I like them to be just a little bit above my knees but not revealing anything else. I agree with you. If it is someone's style then fine but if its to try and be something you're not or to get someone's attention, then they need some help to boost their self esteem or something. Thank you very much for answering. :)

I don't think she got more than a couple of detentions. It happened right after she came to school in a new uniform skirt that it all happened. The longest I wear my skirts is mid knee, but I prefer them just above my knees if possible. I'll only wear a dress longer than that if its formal.

It IS a society problem. There used to be a lot more conservatism in dressing-I'm not really sure when it happened exactly either. It's a shame-I'm a woman, but the men I've known willingly admit to enjoying the view, but most of then viewed the woman as a girl friend instead of wife material. It's just being glorified.

I live in Puerto Rico and the girls here wear the school uniform which was a jumper or a skirt with a blouse. However, this year the school changed the uniforms to pants and blouses because the girls were raising the jumpers/skirts to high by hemming them up. It is a big distraction in school and really not appropriate for them to be acting in such a manner. I just wish I had seen their faces when told the uniform was changing.

Hello lelin! haha I wish I could have seen their faces too! To be honest, I think it is way better to wear more appropriate clothes because like you said, it is a big distraction, girls need to learn that they don't need to dress like that to be liked and girls are cruel creatures. They would be trying to out dress each other. Thank you so very much for answering. :)

That's what you call fashion fad. It isn't something new, I saw photos during my mom's generation when the skirts are way way shorter than how it is today. I think you shouldn't let it bother you ~ it's not your skirt anyway. Let them pressure themselves to conform to society. Just live you life. I have never been a conformist of stuff that I consider unnecessary. Why would I wear super short skirts when it would cause me more harm than good in the first place? I could remember the time in school when everyone was buying beepers. If you don't know what they are, those are gadgets before cellphones when people could message you but you can't message them back hehehe.. They asked me why I didn't have one. I simply told them "I don't need people greeting me good morning just because I need to hear my beeper beep" "and besides, I'm in school, whatever is there that's so important that they need to reach me through a beeper? ~ I'm not a doctor, businessperson nor a police officer" they kept quiet. hehehe.. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Hello laydee! Wow really!? That really shocks me that they were once way shorter. I am not sure way it bothers me. I don't know if it's because I'm subconsciously thinking that they were the type of girls who bullied me and my friends a lot. I mean it bothers me anyway because of how very little girls are wearing but I feel they is more to it. haha I know what beepers are. I'm in the wrong era anyway. I'm trying to get my hands on vintage items more than today's gadgets. :P LOL I liked your answer very much. I agree with you too! It's crazy how people go mental and need the new things just to keep up with others even if they don't need it at all. Thank you so very much for answering and hope you have a good day! :)

G'Day neighbour! I guess the best thing to come out of all this is that girls that age still have a real interest in sewing! I went to a private Christian high school & never experienced any of this - for better or for worse. They had extremely tight uniform regulations there, right down to the brands that were allowed, as well as harsh punishments should anyone not comply. Do you think what they've done still looks tasteful & skillfully done? Or do you believe sewing skills have declined somewhat over the years?

Do these young girls realize just whom they're stimulating when they dress like that? It's not just handsome boys their own age (who're probably made comparatively indifferent by the power of numbers and just being used to it), is it? Feminists can protest all they like about It's the man's fault, but it's no comfort to a girl who's provoked an attack through her dress mode that the provocation doesn't constitute any sort of excuse for the man - She's still been attacked, and she might still have been able to avoid it by dressing less provocatively.

Even here some girls wear the uniform but to show off their beauty shorten their skirts, get their hair all dressy, wear fancy earrings and put on make-up and stuff...but it looks weird, feels weird, and often some other girls too start doing such stuff, because competition. It eventually gets all messy. The teachers have told them not to do all of this stuff but a few days after the scolding, that vicious cycle starts again.

The generation of girls nowadays are really different from before. Totally different, you could now see girls that are also players, that hurt guys. Hehe. Well yeah, the trend of girl suits nowadays are getting smaller and smaller. Well, yeah as a guy, they really look sexy on it, but then if my girlfriend wears that kind of stuff I always remind her to keep it on minimum. Have a nice day my friend, let just keep an open mind about it.
