Why Does Facebook Freeze & Suggest an Auto-Link when I Clearly Don't Want It To?

When I'm typing a comment on a contact's status-update & I type in a word/phrase/sentence that begins-with/contains an uppercase-letter, Facebook freezes my browser in order to display a drop-down list of contacts I have whose name starts with that letter ... EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUE TYPING A TOTALLY-DIFFERENT SEQUENCE OF LETTERS FOLLOWING IT!
Why can't Facebook wait until I 'type an uppercase-letter & THEN wait for the drop-down list to appear'?

Yes! And I'm FINE with my 'slow computer' (or maybe it's just that I can't get enough electricity to flow through it, or maybe my IP is on a different system & conversion slows me down ... whatever), and--while I'm GLAD Facebook's webmasters have zippity-zip-zip computers that can "give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond" (old comic George Carlin's 'delivery-speed')--I'm not ASKING for that much (and my machine's not gonna give it to me)
