how much compensation we can ask

my college has got a permission from university to take 20 students per year. (18 girls+2 boys) . but my principal had taken 24 students admission.(20 girls +4 boys). these student attended class from august 2012 to April 2013( almost 8 months).now the principal declared to cancel the extra 4 students. in that 2 boys were there. in the list of boys ,one mr.Dilip has taken the admission first other than other boys. but the principal cancelled his admission to admit principal frind. that is very cruel. this dilip is from very pure family. he is asking to me to help him. he need legal advise. can he ask for compensation from management,as he has lost almost nearly 1 year
