Do you support local bands?

For any music lover, especially the younger ones....I personally think everyone should. I get a feeling of pride from my local area, knowing some fairly successful bands. I do try when possible to see them live and buy their music. I understand people don't always have the money but still it is nice when you can.
My question for you is, as the title says, do you support local bands? do you go to their gigs? do you buy their music?

I think it is a good way to motivate the people of your area to show their artistic talents. There are people who can do good if they are financial supported. I have my own interest to do something artistic, I have started to write good things on my blog, and I think that I am going to become a good writer someday. I will have a bestselling book and I will have all the wealth required to further explore my own talents and other talented people on this world.
So it all is possible when their are the supporters of the talents in this world. Thanks for the interesting discussion.

Woops didn't realise, although maybe he could show how to find it. It might be against the rules to post links but maybe not a "map" if you will to find it.

I prefer local bands and artists compared to foreign ones. Its not that I do not like foreign music, but because I do believe that we should prefer those who originates locally.

Yeah I agree, I would be the same that I would prefer to follow a local band that isn't very well known compared to one that is from another part of the world.

I am a devoted music lover, that I always watch any local bands performing in some venues like the theaters and clubs. We even have a band before, which was organized by my brother, and in the beginning they play and have some audience before. They are popular to local fans, then they go places, until I just know they split, and I
do not know what had happened to their group, because I have never heard of them until today, that I was very young at that moment, yet I know we have that band.

Thats sweet that they are popular as well. It's something that doesn't always happen here as much, it's almost like people get tired of local acts.

I do support. There are many talented artists who do great work than the celebrated ones.

I do support local bands even underground ones. =) I rarely buy albums of them and go to their gigs. I do listen to them like everyday, there's no way I can't have music for a day. I feel unease and I feel like I'm lacking something. =) There are many great bands their, some are just not yet discovered. I have idols and I am a fan of all of them. Of all the bands out there. =) Whatever it is, I do listen to them, event he ones that we don't normally hear on the radio, or not yet aired on the radio. =)

Yeah you make a good point, I find it's nice to listen to lesser known bands for that nice feeling if they get well known you have the "i knew them when" moment.
These bands need the support from gig and cd sales to get anywhere.

Hi Andrew. I was a band vocalist in way back then. My husband and I actually met in a band where we were both vocals. I loved singing so much, but I had to stop when I have kids. Now I just sing in family gatherings and community events.
Anyway, yes I support local bands. I am from the Philippines, and I am very proud to say that we have lots of promising acts here. Lots of mainstream bands are awesome, and we have many indie bands, too. I never get to go to their gigs anymore because of my children, but my brother does. Someday when my kids are all grown-up, I might go back to the scene. :)

OPM is what we call Original Pinoy (Filipino) Music here in the Philippines and I'm a proud OPM supporter. Whenever OPM bands are around town, I make time to watch them. Some of them have the luck of getting recording companies to release their music to the masses. And some release music online or promoting their bands on Facebook to get promoters and recording companies. I just don't "like" the page but "share" it to my friends and support them as well. I don't buy CDs because it's too old fashioned but I do download in iPod and vote them online or thru text to win choice's awards.
I think local bands nowadays have a wider range of venues for promotions. However, that also brings higher competition against other budding bands. They're lucky enough to get invitations to gigs and develop them to regular gigs that they can use as finances to their needs. Thanks Andrewbarclave :)

Yeah I share facebook stuff too, I kind of hope bands will return the courtesy but you never know. I prefer to buy CDs funny enough cause then you will listen to it more, thats just my opinion.
Thats great that they have plenty of places to play and as far as new bands coming in, if they want it enough they will make sure to make their mark.
