Today when I was gone for walking I saw a tempo from which one man was selling mangoes. they were looking very fresh and smelling very good. So I bought one dozen mangoes. But when my cut one of the mangoes it was spoiled within and its looking blackish. I think these mangoes are ripen artificially for quick ripening so that sellers can sell them in the market and earn money. When fruits are ripen before the ripening period they are spoiled. So they should ripe naturally. Thus it is my waste of money in buying such spoiled mangoes.

At times it is difficult to make out what is inside a fruit. Yesterday I also bought mangoes, they looked very much ripe but when cut, they were sour as most of them were not ripe. I have kept them outside for some time heat gradually makes them sweet if they are not artificially ripened. I hope mine will turn out to be sweet.

Hi,
you may be right. fruit has to be picked early to allow time for transport, so they can ripen "en-route." But for that customers have to bear the loss.
thank you for the response.

. It is not the season for mangoes yet here in my place. These people just want to ear and they don't care if the fruits they are selling are spoiled. It happened to me last week. The same with you, since I miss eating mangoes, when I saw some I immediately bought. Too bad, it's spoiled but looked so fresh.

Indeed we are fooled. That's why I always want to buy in the fruit store that knows me and I have known them too for quite some time already. They are honest and would recommend good fruits to me. You should also have that.

Hi,
We are fooled by their fresh looks and we are tempted to buy them. Here in our city there are many mangoes in the market. But we cant say how fruit would be within by looking at its outer looks.
Thank you for the response.

That is too bad. I would immediately take them back and show them to the seller and try to get your money back. Hopefully he is still there. I certainly would buy from him again. Maybe have the seller open one and see if it is good in the future before buying any more.

Everyone of us buy spoiled foods sometime.
Most fruits are not being riped naturally now-a-days. They just pick them up and using different chemicals ripen them. But due to this there is less amount of nutrients left. and they can earn more easily.
And those fruits don't last long. in a day or two , at most, these just get spoiled

hi,
you are right. Such fruits do not last long. So my wife extracted pulp from those mangoes and added some sugar and salt to it and saved them from rotting more mangoes.
Thank you for the response.

I was once a mango dealer. And we did made use some artificial ripening substance so that we are able to sell ripe mangoes 3 days after it has been harvested. But our mangoes never rotted when we sold them. Most probably, the mango that you bought accidentally dropped while it was still unripe and when it has ripen, that caused the black discoloration. Mangoes are very sensitive to bumps. WHen they are still green, the bumps and bruises that they incur from handling is not visible. Only when it turns to yellow, will these appear.

Hi,
You are right. Those mangoes may not be handled carefully after harvesting. So they become rotten.

Yeah, fruits taste better when we allow them to ripe naturally. I think some mango sellers are liars. I ask them if their mangoes are sweet but when I got home their mangoes are all sour.

Hi,
You are right. When we allow fruits to ripe naturally they taste good. But some people ripe the fruits by artificial methods and they are not sweet. And they tell us lie that the fruits are sweet and we believe on them.
thank you for the response.

This is a very common practice in my town also. Luckily dad buys fruits from some selective fruit sellers and they generally do not give rotten fruit to dad. Even if dad would ask for any particular fruit that he could see in the display the fruit seller would say Papaji this is not for you.
I read that not all the mangoes were rot and you could at least use some of them. So, it is good that not all your money got wasted.

Oh that to bad...U can understand you being dissappointed
once you got home to find them spoiled...I was at a super-
market today and they had 4 for $5.00 and I bought them.
when I reached home I was so pleasantly surprised that they
were delicious...I do think I am going back for more...that
was a good price for me...because at another market they
sell them by the carton which is 12 mangos for about $20.00
and here you can get 16 mangos for $20.00...can you return
them with your receipt????

You are lucky that you had delicious mangoes at cheap rate. I could not return them because the seller was wandering from one place to another.

Why didn't you cut one to test before you bought more? We always do that if we intend to buy more for those easily spoiled fruits. I do not understand why do they want to ripen the fruit artificially if it will spoil the fruit as it will not bring them any good profit.

Hi,
They want to ripen the food artificially because they wanted to make more money by selling them in the beginning season. The prices are high at the beginning. And after some days gone there are many fruits in the market. then the price goes down.
Thank you for the response.

But if by artificially ripening the fruit will be spoiled, why would they take the risk? After all, the customers will know once they cut it open. The fruit sellers will not get any return sales even if they could get the fruit to sell in the early season. And the consumers will surely know how to differentiate the naturally or artificially ripened mango.

Yeah, I always encounter that. I am not very good in choosing the right ripe mangoes. In fact, I am always a victim of that ripe mangoes. I cannot resist to buy more mangoes as it is one of my favorite fruits. One friend suggested me to better smell first the mango. It will help.

Hi,
Your friend is right. By smelling we can know if the mangoes are raw or ripe. But I didn't smell at the time of buying because they are looking very nice from the outer side.
Thank you for the response.

I did experience this scenario before. I bought a watermelon for our church love feast. It looked fine from the outside and no one could know that it was rotten in the inside . When I sliced it open, I could see that it was not fresh and even smell some bad odour in it. Whenever someone ask me to buy watermelon, it makes me think twice and ended up buying something else instead !

Whenever I buy watermelon I always ask to cut small piece of it and check whether it is red inside or not. But I done a mistake while buying mangoes. But my wife has extracted pulp from them and saved some mangoes from spoiling.

Do you reckon that the man knew that they were spoilt before selling them to you? If so, that is a very dishonest practice, and it's blatantly ripping people off, some people have no conscience. If there is a next time maybe to get the fruit cut open before purchase, or not to buy them from tempo's. Sure you lost money, but think of it as a lesson learnt! I am sure you won't get caught out again!

Hi,
You are right. I learned a lesson that anything that glitters is not a pure gold. We should check the thing before buying. Many people were fooled by that buyer. But my wife extracted pulp from that mangoes and keep it in the fridge. Thus some mangoes are saved from spoiling.
Thank you for the response.

Next time, you have to keep an eye on what they put into the bag. There are times you choose the good ones and they wrap the spoiled ones. You have to really choose and put them in the bag yourself before it is weighed and before paying for them.

Hi,
Fruits artificially ripened taste awful too. I can always tell if a fruit is processed this way, the color, smell and texture is way different from the one that is picked mature from the tree. I should be testing one of them before buying or I should return the bad fruits to the vendor and demand for a refund it possible.

I couldn't return them as the mango seller was wandering from one place to another by the tempo loaded with mangoes. But hereafter I would buy the mangoes from reputed seller.

Well, I know that the mango is a tropical fruit, very popular in India too, but never had the opportunity to tasted.
Myself with the fruit, I have very classic tastes, in fact almost only eat apples and bananas. Except in the summer and I also eat melon and watermelon.
So from what I have read in your discussion, you have bought some mangoes believing that they were good, and instead, you were disappointed? Well, if so I am sorry.
Perhaps it is not yet the season for this kind of fruit?

Hi,
you should taste mango it is very sweet fruit its taste is very beautiful. Now in India it is a season of mangoes. Markets are filled up with mangoes. Such people who sell artificially ripen foods try to sell their fruits in this season. If the fruits are not sold in the season they can not get profit. Sometimes fruits ripe late on the tree. So these sellers pick up the mangoes early and try to ripe them by using chemicals.

Yep you wasted money, no substitute for tree ripe mangoes, we have a mango tree in the front of our house that's why i know how it really tastes, it's summer now in our continent, so hot that mangoes seem to fruit very fast, fruits just fall in our roof at times and i have to climb to get them, ummm... the best. People go to lots of stuff just to make a profit . One tip i can give you is if you suspect mangoes to be under ripe is to bury them in rice, sounds ridiculous but the heat of the rice will ripen them naturally instead of the artificial way like adding calcium carbide to speed up riping, think that is what you bought.
