I once taught in an international school where most of the students are agnostics. However, some of their parents and grandparents are either practicing buddhists or sincerely christians. Then I asked them if they can see or at least sense some "usefulness" in embracing religion in their parents and grandparents. To my surprise, 100% said yes. The students said that their parents/grandparents somehow have a sense of hope in the future, that they are positive in the midst of difficulties, that their old grandparents have a peaceful acceptance of death, etc. As far as I am concern, it gives me a sense of purpose in living because I am journeying towards my eternity. It gives me reason to forgive, to love, to lead a good life and not just a "good time", and most of all, to be happy.

Yeah i know u must have been surprised with their responses as u might have thought that since they r from new generation so they might not approve of their families inclination towards religion, i am glad that their thought process is different. i am sure that would have made your perception about life even more larger.

That experience fully convince me that there are lots of surprises in life. Nobody can fully know what is in one's mind. As a teacher, my responsibility is to respect that mind and to offer another alternative to make them better persons.
