Lat night Mum was saying she 'wished' I was there with her as she doesn't like picking furniture and the like on her own. Well, I'm proud of her NOW as she picked some this morning at Lefton's, all by herself. She's all excited about it, mainly due to the discounts she's got. Now, when she rang Lefton's the other day she asked if the guy could measure the settee. When he said '28 inches' she thought, 'Mmm, that's going to be too wide,' lol. Anyway, when she went back into the store this morning she suddenly realised that the guy must have measured the 3 seater and not the 2 seater she wanted. 'It will definitely fit in the space,' she told me later on on the telephone, which is just as well, because she's ordered it, plus the chair shown in the online photograph. We did sit on it a few weeks ago, actually when I was at Mum's and I never thought the two-seater was 28 inches wide. Some of you with dirty minds will say, 'the wider the better' but in this case it's unjustified. Haha! Below is the exact photograph of what Mum is ordering. She's bought both for a total of one thousand and fifty pounds. Compare that with the 2 grand quote the other day and you get the idea why Mum is on such a high. She's also got some savvy insurance cover on it which enables her to acquire some free leather cleaner worth 50 quid! The cushions can be removed and re-covered if necessary. Personally, I think it's an extremely practical piece of furniture and I wish I had it in here, to be honest. Colour-wise, she's going for the colour shown (as it's in the shop as well on the display suite) and the alternative colours aren't good, like bottle green, for example. Very 1970s. Oh, and there's no red either, much to my disappointment!!

It's 'real expensive' here as well but at least it's actually CHEAPER than a lot of furniture of that design elsewhere.

It will last a long time too as the cushion on her present chair couldn't be swapped with cushions on her settee (different sizes) so they've only lasted 10 years or so, therefore her chair began to sag after a few years. She is happy, you're right!

I don`t know if it is a good buy, moneywise, as I don`t know what english pounds mean. But the furnture is beautiful. Your mother must have a very youthful soul. For many years now, I have only thought of getting rid of my belonging, let alone buying new things. Of course, it depends on the amount of money you have. Good for her.

At least she's spending whilst she still can. When she stops work (probably this year sometime) she won't have the same money as she has now. However, she does have savings but she won't delve into that anytime soon unless she has to for emergencies and such like.

Considering she doesn't like picking furniture I have to say that she's made a great choice, I checked out the picture, and commented, it looks very plush, and also very comfortable! Money well spent I think. The colour suits, and I definitely couldn't see it in green to be honest, mind you I am biased, I don't like green when it comes to furnishings, including wallpaper. We had green wallpaper and it was quite gross to be honest. This colour will blend in. Does your mum still use antimacassars? How did father take it, or was he generally uninterested? I sincerely hope he doesn't rain on her parade and bring her off her high.

He seemed to think new furniture in the back (where it's going, nothing to do with him) would cost "40 quid." That's how out of touch he is regarding buying things..because he doesn't bother, therefore has no clue. What on earth are antimacassars? I've never seen that word before. Considering how much other furniture was in that place she's definitely got a bargain, but there again the discounts apply to everything in Lefton's.

ha ha Janey they are crocheted doily like things old ladies had to put on all their furniture I guess to see how much oil, was in the hair of people who rested their heads ON THE ANTIMACASSARS and they were trying to keep their furniture clean. . oh my gosh back when I was in my teens a lot of furniture came covered in plastic and some old ladies would keep that ugly plastic on them either because they did mot want it to get dirty or they tought the plastic cover really belonged on it.

Thanks Hatley, indeed that is exactly what they are, was I showing my age? I wonder if they still make them, probably not, I remember they kept sliding off! That's a typical man's response Janey!

Hello Janey. I think your mother usually finds it hard to choose new furniture. What she has bought sounds like very good quality and it was a good price too. Compared to two thousand prices I can see why your mum is so delighted. Last year my mum got a new three piece suite. It is a neutral color: beige. I like it and find it ever so comfortable. I bought a recliner chair new and found another recliner chair in a charity shop for just 80 pounds. I can't afford to get a new sofa.

I know what you mean about the prices of new sofas. Ridiculous aren't they? However, if you wish to buy direct from the manufacturers (as it's cheaper) there is a facility to do that online. Below aren't referral links, just sites that sell British made furniture. You can always browse rather than pay; that's what I do all the time! http://www.sofasofa.co.uk/ http://www.suite-sofas.co.uk/

We fell in love with it in-store when I stayed at Mum's a few weeks ago. The suite stood out like a sore thumb from all the others. Mum needs high backed furniture as she doesn't like to slouch (I don't either actually) and a lot of them in-store were the squidgy, shorter-backed suites with lots of cushions, something she knew wouldn't last..so she went for the suite identical to the one in the photo. The design of it actually makes you sit bolt upright, it's so comfortable. The photograph doesn't do it justice, in fact. In case you're wondering, the carpet in the back is a chocolate brown (pure wool) with lighter flecks in it. Together with the suite it will look marvellous, I'm sure.

Your Mum always want you to give her some advice no matter what she intends to buy.I think the settee your Mum ordered herself is a piece of tasteful furniture. She also has a good eye for a bargain.

Mum tends to be lucky like that. I mean, fancy a flyer coming through the door the moment she was thinking of going back to Lefton's to order something. Plus there was another discount on top. Can't be bad.
