Fancy Getting Upset Over The Cat Sunning Herself Outside

I couldn't help myself. John had let Flojo out whilst he was smoking at the back door, into the yard..and as soon as I spotted her through the window (my computer is situated practically in front of it) I started crying...only a bit but enough to get noticed, so to speak. When John spotted me he said, 'What's up?' I told him, 'Look at her sunning herself, sniffing the air. She deserves a proper garden!' She does too. Currently, she's 6 years old. By the time we move out of here she will probably be dead. I know she can go out and she's not restricted by being indoors 24/7 but..I dunno. I'd just love it if she could run around free in her own back garden with a lawn and flowerbeds on each side. Wouldn't that be marvellous? Coming and going as she pleases, not bothering about crappy alleyways and lack of greenery that is the surrounding area here. I guess I'm feeling vulnerable after banging my head getting in our 'egg box' of a car. Tears ran down my face then as well. Just as well Mum gave me some good news about the suite she's buying over the telephone..I really needed cheering up at the time.

Hi janey Well, at least you have your , safe and sound at home. Not like me who is now in the 4th week of my dog being gone. Somebody stole her. She was in the yard when I had to run out. She hates it when I go anywhere without her and unbeknownst to be, she got over the fence and ran after me. I had already got on the bus not knowing she had chased after me. She evidently roamed the neighborhood frantically looking for me when some man came along in an older white truck,so says the neighbors, and got out, picked her up and took her. I have looked and looked and looked for her. I can not find a house with an older white truck, I have made flyers offering a large reward for the safe return of my dog, I have checked the lost and found dog website every hour on the hour and all to no avail. She is gone and I'm afraid I will never see her again. The worst of it is that I am leaving Florida on 5/2 and going to Boston for the summer, maybe longer and at that point, all hope is lost. I cry day and night. Sometimes I feel there are no more tears left, but there are. I'm miserable, sadder than I have ever been in my life and don't think I'll ever get over this. So, savor the moments you have with your beloved cat and know that she is happy as she knows no other life and even if she did, she's probably just happy to be with you, like my dog was. I can only hope and pray that the man took her for all the right reasons but knowing how attached she is to me and the fact that she does not like strangers, especially men, makes me cry day after day.

Oh my, that's awful, I had no idea my friend. What type of dog is it, just out of interest? I was a nervous wreck when Flojo went missing for 13 hours one time so heaven knows what I'd be like if she disappeared altogether. I don't know what else to say. I'm so sorry.

I am sure that she is very happy as she does not know any different. And she has you to love and pet her. don't worry about her. if she didn't like it she would find a way to leave

Well, that's true. She is a cat after all! Great escape artists if they're that way inclined.

Oh Janey what are we like eh? Monday night I desperately wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn't come, being told as a child that boys should never cry doesn't help and I've had that so instilled into me I cannot change it. Our cat will be 20 this November if she lives that long, I am hoping when we take her to the vet in July he will tell father the kindest thing to do would be to put her down, honestly Janey she has no quality of life, she's virtually blind, deaf and yet father won't take her, he has her sitting on his lap all day long. Maybe if we could get both father and the cat done, we'd get a discount, the animal can't help it, the human can, useless waste of space that he is. Shame you can't put humans down Hope you are feeling a little better for the cry, and hey, it's ok to get upset you know!

I have a confession to make about the doctors too. I DID try to cancel the appointment the other day, really I did but I was unsuccessful due to the early time I was ringing up (every man and his dog rings up at around 8.15am - the appointment would've been at 8.40am) and I just couldn't get through at all. As a consequence, I chose not to ring once the appointment came and went as I thought it was a waste of time. Now, today I received a letter from the surgery advising me to let them know in future if I wasn't going to come to an appointment and that others could take my slot if I did! Damn cheek! Needless to say, I've sent the manager an email explaining that I did try to cancel but I couldn't due to not being able to get through. It's hardly my fault they're short-staffed..I said. I also said that I've tried changing to St Pauls Surgery but I can't because they aren't taking any new patients 'so I'm stuck with you.' Oh dear. What makes it worse is that John doesn't know that I was unsuccessful in trying to cancel my appointment. He thinks I was 'cos I said I was lol. Now, due to the fact that treating my ear has actually made it worse John is now saying, 'Make that appointment on Monday' not realising I've sent the manager an email slagging them off. Oh dear again lol. This is what happens when I lie. All this sh*t hits the fan, which is why it's an extremely rare occurrence. What would you do? Confess all the above to John or what? In my email I've even said that I don't want anyone from the surgery ringing me up. Oh dear number 3. What a mess I'm in!

Is your backyard paved? Start container gardening.

My yard is only 17' wide and much of it is paved, too, but I have stuff growing all over the place.

Yes, it is paved but I haven't got the room for containers. As I look out the living room window at the back I have the raised flower bed that runs alongside the dividing wall on the right. This comes outwards about a couple of feet or so, no more than that. I can sit on the top bit at the far end where the sun is at its strongest and the cat was sat on the flagstones in front of that end bit. She certainly knows where the warmest parts of the yard are. Next to the back gate beyond the raised flower bed is our shed and that's to the left with the rest of the paved area in front of that (inbetween the shed and the back of the kitchen) and this is where I'm about to grow some sweet peas up the front of the shed so I don't have to look at it from the kitchen window. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I haven't got a lot of space in the back yard but at least I do have SOME plants to look at. I'd be a lot more depressed if that raised flower bed did not exist.

How much experience have you had in growing 'stuff?' I'm a novice in comparison.

Hello Janey. I am sure your cat loves it in the sunshine outside. It doesn't matter to her that your yard is not very big. I live in a bungalow and it has a fairly big back garden. I let my dogs walk on the piece of land next to my bungalow. It is ideal and it locally known as Doggy Corner. If I had a cat I would be worried in case a car knocked him or her over. One of my friends has cats and keeps them indoors with dirt trays under her stairs. It is lovely that your mum is buying a new suite.

Yes, we have a litter tray for Flojo. I do worry though that, if we DO ever move, what she'll be like in a new place? Honestly, it's like having children lol.

Mine won't either due to high walls at either side of us. When we first got her she would 'escape' but, seeing as she doesn't like other cats, she's ended up being a semi-indoor cat, with occasional forays into the yard, moreso when John's at home as - like I said, he smokes at the back door so, naturally, the cat wants to go out more.

hi Janey oh yes I sure appreciate that longing as if I had it to do over again I would never have suggested we sell our house with its big fenced in back yard to pay off some debts. Our dog had a place to run and we almost had the house paid off. To shorten a long story we never got another house and had to live in apartments the rest of our lives. Then in 2008my son was laid off and here I am today in Gold Crest. Had we paid off our house and us stayed there ours lives would have been so much better. Probably since we would have owned the house then my sons getting laid off would not have been such a catastrophe and I would h ave been able to stay in our house.. I hope you can move into a house of your own soon.Glad your mum, cheered you up. Crying always gives me a headache and never really changes anything.

Awww Hatley you're so lovely. It's a shame about your house and everything but I guess you're being philosophical. Where does your son live? Like you said, you can't change anything now and you're right..crying DOES give a person a headache but in my case yesterday, I banged my head first before I cried, getting into that egg box of a car lol.

She is a happy kitty regardless. It is her mommy who yearns for a garden. Flojo is good with sunning herself in her present yard and eventually trotting back inside and getting proper attention from her loyal humans. My cats are wholly indoor beasts. I would like for them to have nice, deep windowsills or window seats to lounge on and, maybe, a nice sun porch on which to nap. I have visions of the youngest clambering in and out of the lofts. However, that isn't going to happen for a while; there will likely be another--very small--space in between this rental and our dream house.

It's great to dream though. I actually think it's a good thing to do as it helps us plan for the future, whether in smaller or bigger ways.

Your cat is making the best of whatever is available. Did you not see a smile on her face - not the smile of a cheshire cat anyway! It is we humans that are never satisfied. It is time we learnt from the four legged kind.

Yes, you're right. Seeing her curled up on the couch, contented (as it's windy today and she hates the wind) makes me realise I was silly going all teary like that. She did remind me of a previous cat of mine though, Jodie, who used to sniff the air whilst poking his head out of the window (he was a cat who hated being indoors) so I gave him what he wanted and moved to Mum's where he could be free to come and go as he pleased. When Flojo sniffed the air it brought it all back that was all, softy that I am.
