Is it an okay treat?

Anytime we eat out, or go through a drive through we will get extra jam and peanut butter packets and take them home and put them in the fridge. My two oldest kids think they are great snacks and will sit with the little packet and a spoon and eat them. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, they enjoy it. My mother in law though thinks it's horrible and bad for them and they should be putting it on bread. I don't see where the woman who brings them candy and chocolate bars all the time thinks that a little bit of peanut butter or jam is bad for them. It's obviously not their meal. Like my son said he was hungry but supper is in the oven so I told him to grab a jam. He's happy, I'm happy and it's not ruining his supper.

My boyfriend will get a jar of peanut butter and get a spoon and eat a spoonful of peanut butter. I see nothing wrong with doing what yoiur children are doing. afterall peanut butter is protein and that is good for your children. And the jam is better than candy.

That is my feelings as well. I just think my Mother in law needs something to complain about lately.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. As long as they have dinner and they are not ruining their supper by eating it. Honestly, I think that candy bars and chocolate will ruin their dinner quicker. In case you don't know though certain jams do have a lot of sugar so if you are worried about that you should look at the labels. I don't think there is anything wrong with it though, especially if it is only on an occasionally basis. Your the mother so it is your decision.

Oh I know some are high in sugar but as I said it can't be worse then chocolate bars and other candy. Peanut butter is also a source of iron and protein so at least I know my picky meat eaters are getting that little extra protein from that. I swear if we bbq outside and eat outside they will eat anything, but to eat inside they will barely eat anything other then chicken and some fish if we tell them it's chicken.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Every mother and mother in law has their opinions, but they have to remember that it's only their opinion. Next time the mother in law says something about the peanut butter and jam packets for snacks, tell her to bring over more candy for them so they don't have to eat those 'bad' snacks that you give them!

they still eat their regular meals so a little peanut butter or jam won't hurt them. if you put it on bread, they will be full and they won't have dinner anymore. candy and choc bars are more harmful than peanut butter and jam.
