Why Don't People 'Search' the Already-Answered Discussions before Starting One?

I'm sure it's for the convenience (if not for the little bit of 'popularity' they think they get more of by starting discussions than -by commenting on other discussions). I'll admit that I do it. I'm doing it right now! I didn't 'search' for 'already-answered discussions' before I went to the "start a new discussion"-link & got started on THIS one! But I'm talking about questions you KNOW 'everybody & their mother' have asked before---questions like 'How d`ya Get Money?' & 'Do You Have a Girlfriend?' or 'Do You Have a Boyfriend?' etc. And why do other people go ahead & ANSWER those questions?

I think people may fail to search for the "already answered discussions" before starting a new one simply because they're interested in seeing new answers and input. Even though discussions may be the same, people usually have different life experiences and things to offer to a discussion. It may also be partly because people are counting the pennies being made in each discussion and don't want to spend a lot of time thinking of "unique" things to talk about.

Yeah; but kinda like a few people have said below, opinions & things change; and 'starting from my viewpoint might show you something you didn't see starting from theirs.

I have no idea how you would search for "already answered discussions". Could you give some instructions on how this is done. Or do you mean just scrolling through discussions in the category you're interested in to see if the topic is already there? Thanks

maybe you are right.but i don't want to search the existing discussions.there are so many discussions on mylot,it is normal that one discussion is similar with several others.everyone has different idea and experience about one issue.just let them express their own opinion.i guess that many people like me have not met the similar discussions yet.if you have replied this discussion, you just skip it.many others including new members who have not replied this one want to talk about it.if the similar discussions were unreasonable, the admin of mylot would take some steps to warn this action.but there is not.so it is reasonable.

“I believe that everything happens for a reason.People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

Site should pick it up when they start typing in the discussion subject - should give them the option to view the already answered discussions or post it anyway... Could help a bit....

Yeah, but the site is (understandably) too busy counting how many nths of a penny to give each user for each little submission---to add another function to the mix would make every screen-change take minutes instead of seconds to load on your browser. Maybe when myLot is more-popular than YouTube & is running on the hard-drives of MILLIONS of machines (rather than the paltry 251,000+ it claims to use), THEN we can add features like that

i will read people's duplicates, they may have something different to say on the subject matter than the original post. i may not always respond to duplicates, though.

It is obvious (if you take a minute to think about it) that it would be impossible for you to start a new discussion, that had already been started by someone else. The same topic (maybe,) but you would be using different words, suggestions, and attitudes. So why spend all that time searching when you can go ahead and start your own lawful discussion?

hi there, you have a point on what you have said, though, for some reasons, people will just take the option of posting rather than to search as they think this could save their time. as you would be needing the right keyword in searching otherwise, you will be spending time in doing the search.
