Boston Bombings - A Week Of Lunacy

After finally bringing the Boston manhunt to an end, the countless agencies that brought this to it's conclusion, took turns to congratulate each other on their roles in the operation. I was expecting them to crack open the beers.
Now let me give you an external view from another country - Let me share with you how this episode of the keystone cops played out to an international audience.
First of all, the bombing and it's aftermath was horrific... And then the clowns took over.
Up until Thursday, the countless agencies did not have a clue. It was up to the agenda driven press to make up stuff for three days - It was muslims, it was a saudi, it wasn't a saudi, somebody had been arrested and no one had been arrested. It didn't matter, they could say what they wanted - They had wall to wall coverage to fill with their usual expert guff.
And then the video was released... The multiple agencies still didn't have a clue. It wasn't until the two brothers robbed a shop, stole a car and shot a police officer that the many branches of law enforcement finally caught up to them.
There was a shoot out and one of the brothers was killed, the other escaped.
A lockdown was ordered, people were told to stay indoors - I think this was so the various groups of idiots could drive around with flashing lights as they held aloft their machine guns - pretty much like a small army in one of those developing countries... You know the ones they warn us about?
So... They could not find this 19 year old - All the police, FBI and God knows who else - They suspected he had moved on and lifted the lockdown.
Within an hour they received a phone " Hello? Hello? Is that the police? - Yeah I have found lots of blood in my yard and on my boat - I think this half dead bleeding teenager might be the bloke you are looking for"
The agencies put on their flashing lights and drove to the man's house - There was a stand off for a few hours, some bullets got fired and they finally captured him...
Back to the back slapping press conference - Hey it's not about you
Everyone was very pleased with themselves.
And then the lunacy continued.
The DA was asked, would he be facing the Death Penalty?
Let us get this straight, This SUSPECTED bomber has been shot, he is in hospital. He is in a serious condition, but have no fear because he is getting the best medical treatment that money can provide... SO THEY CAN KILL HIM when he is found guilty.
That my friends is INSANE
But then any Nation that claims to be civilised, that retains a DEATH PENALTY is a little hypocritical.

They lifted the lock-down hoping that he would move or someone else would notice something they had missed which is just exactly what happened. I think the reason that they are giving him medical care right now is to hopefully get some answers out of him and not so that they can just kill him once he is recovered...if he is recovered. Boston is large and going over video footage is not like watching television. It takes time. They got their suspects and released the photos on Thurs. looking for the publics help in identifying the suspects. As soon as the photos were released...that is when these two went on a rampage yet again so it was obvious to them at this point and that is when they got the older brother. Once he was identified then they knew who the other one was. I agree with you that the media coverage was way way too ridiculous and most people shut it off and randomly checked for updates. I do think the law enforcement did well in identifying the suspects. Not only are these surveilance videos not easy to watch but there are several of them covering all different areas. I agree with you on the backslapping and all that...a bit overdone and it is after all their job but I think they did a good job in getting the guy.

You all need to stop picking on the US. We actually are all pretty sick of how our government aids all these foreign countries financially and to the detriment of our own country and it's people! None of the countries we help are appreciative and none of them help us when when we have disasters. They don't even like us. Our government is a bunch of corrupt, greedy jerks. They do help other countries at our expense and and skrew them over at the same time. Do these freakin fools target the government? Nope. Innocent people get killed...not the ones causing the problems.

Rob It was a very crowded event and initially they had no idea who exactly they were looking for. They got the surveillance tape from a local store and had to go through it all to try to find someone amongst the crowd that acted suspicious. Those things are hard to view at best. They found them on the surveillance and then had to get it copied for evidence. They had no idea at all as to just who these two men were. They made the pics public on Thursday and pleaded for the publics help in identifying them. When the Pics become public, that is when these guys got violent again and killed another officer who was just sitting in a cruiser. They stole a car to get away as police chased them and they were throwing exposives out at the cops as they chased them. This was on Thursday late at night. The injured man took off on foot. There were so many stories all over and misinformation. I thought the search did only involve police. At one point they were looking for a green car with Mass plates that he was believed to have stolen. The FBI is involved as they are getting called in to interrogate him. I don't even think they knew for certain who the two men were when they first went after them after they shot the officer. They were still fielding calls from the public trying to figure out who they were and where they were from. The marathon had people from all over attending it. Boston is a very busy and congested place always.

I do not believe they did a good job - Any other country would launch an inquiry into why they were so useless

The US response to most issues is to adopt a 'might is right' attitude. Swamp an area with men and machinery and stomp the heck out it. Often this proves successful and helps build the idea that it is the way to go in future crises. In this case the Boston authorities were fortunate that the boat owners went out for a breath of fresh air as the police chief admitted at the press conference that the suspect had moved outside of the controlled zone. In fact he was not being pursued at all in the area where he was captured because the 'lockdown' mentality assumed that he would not have been able to escape. The back slapping and jingoism is slightly hollow therefore but probably a necessary action in a nation that jumps at its own shadow. The patriotic fervour is perhaps most keenly applied in countries where it acts as a bonding mechanism for itinerant immigrants seeking the stability of belonging.
As for getting him better so that they can kill him. That has long been the practice in countries. We did the same and of course many a young woman pleaded her belly to save herself from the hangman. At least until the child was born.
Finally, there were Brits in Vietnahm. My dad brought back two shell cases that he had turned Into candle sticks. I think that we were 'advisors'.....

Yes I am aware that the US does not have the copyright on "Get them better, then kill them".
We have executed people in the past that had days to live, Monarchs and nobility. The point is that we have moved from killing people as punishment.
I was also aware of the "advisors" in vietnam, but never as armed allies.
