Hitting the dog

I had to dogwalk today, I went over and the one is just under a year still a puppy. He always tries to push his way out.
Well he got out, and I tried grabbing his collar. He just pransed around the front yard, he goes out and had to get him (they dont have much training either), I have been working with them but if they dont do it, then they will only do it with me.
He brings him back to the door, and hits him a few times, and yell at him. I am meaning not a tap on the noise, but a full blown smack a few times.

I am in full agreement with you hatley. That is no way to train an animal at all. Positive reinforcement is the only way to go.
Yep, the dog may just turn on him...or worse yet someone else. As much I love the idea of that guy getting be bit in the @ss by his dog, it'd probably do more harm than good. The end result would probably be either taking the dog to the pound or having it put down.
Like I said in my response below, people like that don't deserve to have pets.

All that taught that dog was that when he does come back or is brought back he will be hit. Some people should not have animals for this very reason. Have you considered reporting him to the humane society? Or whatever animal welfare organization you have in your area? S.P.C.A., the dog pound etc. I would without hesitation.
Next time the dog gets out I would yell to him to run! The dog would be better off with someone who will love and guide him.

Those who do that are illiterates. They know nothing about animals and how to get them to listen without being punished. They should not keep dogs. Just as it is illegal to hit children there should be a rule put in place for animals too.

I had a neighbor who would give her dog treats to stop him from barking! And he would bark every time I went in my own back yard. Her boyfriend tried working with the dog, but like you said, the dog only obeyed him, not his owner because she rewarded him for bad behavior.
This dog also bit me, but luckily didn't break the skin (blunt teeth).

Little mistakes such as those are what most will do. I think the two get away with a lot, but when others around they don;t want to be viewed as lack owners. Now they are paying me to walk them, and sort of get them in line. Well what I do for the hour 3 -4 times a week isn't going to help the rest. I've told them thaat, the one is doing great on walked, but otherwise a monster.

I think it's not good. It's mean and cruel and if you hit your dogs then when you call them they probably won't come but go the opposite direction because they think they are going to get smacked for something!

They do say animals are like children. I do not agree with abuse though. I do not abuse my nieces and nephew. Well, if you ask my nephew he gets mistreated. But, let me justify that he is "special." I do not mean he is special needs. I have literally had to hit my nephew once or twice. I felt bad about it, but I felt at the time he gave me no other choice. One or two little whacks on his rear.
As for your dogs they will grow to be disciplined dogs. I understand there is a fine line between discipline and abuse and we need to not cross it ever. But, sometimes these things of smacking a dog, or child cannot be helped. These are really our only options occasionally. Of course you cannot give a dog a timeout. I am trying to say it will be okay.

This is so awful! I would never - NEVER - hit a dog (nor any other animal). I own a very naughty Yorkie who do so many annoying things every day...but I couldn't hurt him. I love him and I know that he loves me. Dogs are our best friends and they trust us.
I hate violence!
