Personally i take them regularly when i am sick having fever and pain. In the past i only take paracetamol for fever and pain , as my age increases i dosage increase upto 650mg per pill which i take 2 around 4 times per day. Lately my pharmacist introduce me to Ibuprofen which she said is better and act faster especially as painkiller for muscle sores. But my friends who take ibuprofen caution me said she suffer from bad stomach from taking ibuprofen. Personally i taking ibuprofen now and made sure i eat a little to prevent stomach pain. What is your choice?

Who has advised you about 2 tablets four times a day? And how old are you? Even for paracetamol,, it is on the higher side because you have mentioned you take 650mg. If you take such heavy doses , you will slowly get addicted to it and cannot do without heavier doses as you grow older and older; secondly, this will cause acidity and I have heard of potential kidney damage also with excessive use of these tablets. Moderation is alright.
Ibuprofen can be taken along with some antacid tablets [ any tablet must be taken only after a meal]but this should be stopped after a while [may be for two to three days if you are suffering from some terrible pain ; but it is a known fact that ibuprofen damages the liver. Please consult a doctor and do not opt for 'over the counter medicines'.
What is troubling you? Did you suffer an injury or something?

Interesting people. I never heard of the acidity thing and wasn't anything my doctor talked about. I never experienced any such problems myself. Hard on kidneys? Yes, it can be. Only take if necessary. I agree that 650 mgs 4 times a day is way too much but didn't want to say so because I don't know all particulars. I thought it was odd that my doctor said it was okay for me to take 1200 mg per day long term. Personally, if that were me I would get a second opinion because I do think that 650 mg four times a day is not a wise idea.

Correction: [quote]upto 650mg per pill which i take 2 around 4 times per day
Then that is actually 1200 mgs four times per day???? Ibuprofen?
I am no doctor but that is way too much no matter what age you are. Please consult another pharmacist and/or doctor. I really think that it would be to your best interests to have a second opinion, what do you think?

Hi,
I don't take Ibuprofen. I take Paracetamol tablet for the relive from pain. I take the pills very rarely as those have bad side effects like acidity, kidney damage, some stumuch problems. Last month I had a minor operation of lump on my back. I took painkiller for two days. After that doctor advised me to avoid pain killers as far as possible.

I have never heard of paracetamol. I have to take ibuprofen often due to pain and massive migraine headaches. Few years ago when I was injured, in a lot of pain and still working at a physically demanding job I had to take 1200 mg per day in order to just get to work, do the job and get home again. I did that for about 8 months until I just couldn't walk anymore. At the time the doctor said it was okay for me to be taking the high doses per day that I was but I was concerned. It says on the bottle not to exceed 1200 mg per day. I never got any stomach problems as a result. I usually always assure I have food in my stomach before I take ibuprofen. I also have arthritis and when the weather is changing I get throbbing pain that can bring tears it hurts so bad. Doctor told me to take 1200 mg ibuprofen for 5 days claiming that after several days it starts to work like an anti inflammatory. I try not to take it as much now. When I feel the headaches coming on I try to catch it with an Aspirin before it turns in to a migraine.
I have other options for pain medicine but when I really need it, ibuprofen does the trick for me. 400mg and within half an hour I am not feeling any pain at all.

Hi kukueye,
Ibuprofen is more of a pain reliever than an antipyretic(for fever). And yes it is true that you will experience a stomach ache if you take ibuprofen in an empty stomach.
I usually take pain relievers such as ibuprofen when I experience muscles pains and even if I experience toothaches, but I always make sure to take it with meals or after meals. Paracetamol is what I take if I have a fever and for me it is the most effective medicine for fever.
Although there are a lot of pain relievers in the market, and they are usually sold as over the counter meds it is always important to seek an advise of a health care provider such as doctors and pharmacists before taking them.
Remember medicines is a double edge commodity it can either heal or kill
Happy Mylotting!

Ya , it is more of pain killer too. I got friends who take ibuprofen for teeth pain and also for muscle pain or sore after heavy exercise . Any medicine must be taken with caution and not overdose. For me usually i take 2 of them , then the fever will subside.

Hello Kuku.,
Do you have migraine all the time then? Or is it really caused by something else? My Husband suffered for years from migraine he fell off a table when he was very small and they seemed to think that the reason was because of that even so if you take a big dosage like that it might not work so good as if you could try something natural first.
I know it can be very painful I have had one or two migraines before when I was very stressed out.
So I learned to slow down and the migraines stopped practically altogether and have never come back.
Paracetamol is much better in the sense that Ibuprofen does actually upset a lot of people. It does the same for me too.
With Ibuprofen its much better to take it after eating a heavy meal but even then it does have bad effects sometimes.
With time the natural migraines go down in amount and gradually fade out if the reason is another like stress they will keep on and on for a lot of people.
I hope that is not your case.

Ibuprofen is much better. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. It stops inflammation and thus pain and fever. It is a lot more effective than paracetamol. You can take up to 2800mg per day in divided doses. You will only get stomach problems from ibuprofen if you take it on a continual basis. That is for day and days.
