Today I made a Dump Cake

I made a Dump Cake for the first time today. I always said I don't like Dump Cake so I never made one. I wanted something sweet today and didn't have any thing so I decided to make this cake since I had all the ingredients on hand.
If you've never had Dump Cake it's very easy to make.
Choose any flavor of fruit pie filling along with a can of crushed pineapple. spread the pineapple in the bottom of a 9 X 13 pan. Now spread your pie filling over the pineapple. Cover the top with a dry yellow cake mix. Don't add anything to the cake mix, just cover the top of the filling with the dry mix. Now cover the top with pats of butter. the recipe I used called for 2 sticks of butter but believe me, one stick will be enough. To top it off you can sprinkle the top with nuts. I happened to have a partial bag of pecans so I used them.
Now pop the cake into a 350 degree oven and cook for one hour. Mine was done in less time so just watch it and take it out if it is done sooner. The top will be a beautiful golden brown and the nuts will be toasted to a deeper brown.
As a matter of fact we are having a big fish fry tomorrow at my church and I thought I might take this cake, Only one problem... I kept having littl bites until I realised I had eaten almost half of the cake! I guess I better just keep this one at home.
Have you ever made a dump cake? The combination of pineapple and fruit pie fill is endless. One lady at church uses cherry pie filling with the pineapple...mmmm very good. Some just leave the pineapple out all together.

I like dump cake, it's very simple and taste's good.i used to use a recipe from a very old cookbook which is cherry pie filling, pineapple, yellow cake mix than 12 slice's of butter on top of the cake.I have also used chocolate cake mix instead of yellow =]

I've never seen it made with chocolate cake mix. That's different.
I have seen it made with pumpkin pie filling. That was really different. I took a taste of it and it was good. But that was when I thought I didn't like dump cake. The recipe for that one was a little different. You can search it and find it if you might want to give it a try.
I'm sitting here now with terrible heart burn from all the cake I snacked all afternoon. I should have known better but it was so good. I think it must be the pineapple and all that butter on top. I won't do that again.

I had to look up Dump Cake cause I had never see one nor heard of it before. It actually looks pretty nice and I would like to try and make one. Try something different. Thank you so very much for sharing this and giving us the instructions. :D

It's very easy to make and quick. I kind of think of it as a lazy cake, too. I don't know why I never liked it before. Maybe I didn't like the way others made it. You know we always think our cooking is the best.
