A Day out at the Lake

we're taking a bit of a break from building work today to have a ay out at the lake. I'm lending my car to one of our volunteers who will drive my eldest son and the other volunteers down there this morning. I'll deal with the animals and pack a picnic then drive down in the truck with my partner and younger child later on. We should be able to paddle today, I'm not sure it's warm enough to swim. Our volunteers have paddle boards which my elder son is going to try out. Its a lovely quiet spot and it will be nice to be away from cement and goats for a few hours! Do you have a lake nearby? We're very luck as this one is only about 20 minutes river away. Where do you go when you need a break from routine?

Canoeing at Lake Kanopolis - My daughter brought her girls for a visit two summers ago. A friend of hers met us at the lake and we enjoyed the canoe and the water.
We have access to three lakes a half hour or forty five minutes from us. One is strictly for fishing and boating, no swimming. We have had such a drought that the water levels have been very low. We are still having occasional snows, which is unusual for this time of year. There are some good hiking paths around the lakes as well. There are some free zoos that close as well. It has been a long time since we have had a chance to get away that way, though.

We're just the opposite here. The water is far higher than normal due to the abnormally wet Spring. Yesterday I was commenting on the 'island' in the lake that we normally drive out to.

Do I have a lake nearby? Oh, yeah... Lake Ontario! But I'd really like to have my own stream or pond in my backyard.

We've got a stream along one edge of the property.

Nice! I saw some kids wading in a stream today and wished I could join them, but we were on our way somewhere. I didn't have my wellies with me, anyway (not warm enough yet to go barefoot).

The best paddling is when the air is warm, but the water cold enough to cause that intake of breath when you first dunk your foot.

We have lakes, but they are for the ducks only, within 5 minutes walk of me we have two reasonably sized recreational parks, the lakes are for all the wildlife and it's not deep enough to swim, and you wouldn't want to anyhow, the water is disgusting, sadly people think it's fun to throw litter in it! The nearest place to be able to swim is the ocean, and that is about 90km away. But it's hardly ever warm enough to go in the sea is icy even in the Summer months. I hope you enjoyed your day out at the lake. Time out is always fun, a break from the norm of every day life. We should do it more often.

That takes me back to the ponds near where I used to live! Lovely to look at from a distance, but the water full of rubbish on closer inspection. With the sea, I really prefer to look at it than go in.

Well, we have lakes, but I don't like to swim in lakes. Its still too cold to anyway, well, for me anyway. Unless the water is nice and warm, I'm not really into getting wet all over - kind of like a cat.

I'll swim when it's warm, but not this early in the season. My elder son was in paddle boarding though.

I haven't been to the lake in years! My husband and I were just talking about it yesterday, saying how we need to take the kids. I'm not sure how far it is, like I said it's been years. I'd have to guess maybe a 30 minute drive, maybe more, from where we live. Happy mylotting!

30 minutes doesn't sound too bad. Have fun!

I have a lake very close to my house..and sometimes it's nice to just walk down there and sit watching the water and seeing those who are having fun enjoying it...my sister has a cabin not far from here too and they have a pontoon and you can enjoy a trip around the lake and be lazy on the pontoon.....that is very fun.

The pontoon sounds lovely. I occasionally hire a canoe on our local lake. It's a good way of getting some space when it's busy.

Living where I live in the bush is wonderful. My break from routine is being retired and working occasionally as a volunteer driver. I have the best life. We have the lagoon across the road, the river about 20 minutes away, the mineral natural hot water baths a few minutes up the road where we can go soak our cares away. Life is good.

The lake sounds very picturesque and peaceful. I hope that you have a really lovely time there and if you paddle then good luck with the water temperature. I used to live by a house with a river at the back of it. It was a lovely area for walking my dogs. Years ago I lived in Kent and there were some lakes at a village five miles from where I lived. It was in a woody area and it was fun there to walk around sightseeing. It felt like a relaxing place to visit. I adored it there with my friends. I go to the coastline these days because it is just three to four miles away. Sand Bay is a quiet rural beach excellent for dog walking.

I love beaches when they are deserted, but hate crowds. It's the same with the lake. I rarely go there in summer when it's busy.

I grew up near a warm beach/ocean. So, I didn't really have any appreciation for lake when I was growing up. Moving hear, and realizing that the water from the Pacific Ocean could get a bit could, I've learned to know (and appreciate) some warm water lakes. There's a few here that's not 30 minutes drive from where we live. We've gone to most of them over the years. I don't dip anymore, but the kids surely love it.

I'm glad to hear that your family has a spot like that. It is nice to be able to go do activities as a family to places like a lake or quiet area. I hope to be able to find something like that in our area but I haven't managed to find anything really close yet.

We don't go there as often as we ought.
