Why are people so impatient?

I work retail, specifically in the deli department and I have noticed that many people can be so impatient. Alot of the times, we are shorthanded so we all have to do a lot of multi tasking. It amazes me how customers can be so impatient over deli food. What do people do when they have to wait in traffic or at a doctor's office? I think people need to cultivate the idea of patience in their brains.

Just as you are short handed and busy - so are some of these people. They have limited amounts of time to get what they need and get back to work, pick up their children, go to a meeting or class, etc.
While it is true that SOME people do not have anything better to do than stand in line; that is not true of everyone.
If they have to wait in line too long or too often; they WILL go somewhere else and you will lose business and more employees.
In traffic - ever hear of "road rage". And, at the doctors office, if the doctor is too long, they will go up and reschedule or CANCEL the appointment entirely and go somewhere else.

good day to you sdmoonchild,
i guess, i am also one of those people who are impatient. as there are times, i feel irritated especially inside a fast food wherein my orders are not being attended well. however, although i feel that way, i always see to it that i have expressed my sincerest thanks when somebody assisted me or given me a good explanation. sometimes, people just need to be given a good explanation so they won't feel unattended. thus, being impatient to people do arise when a person feels that he or she is unattended or ignored.

people make plans for their day to day activities. they have jobs and household chores to do. when they go to a store and the line is long and the service is slow, it is natural that most of them will get impatient. in your case, it is up to the management to remedy this problem. they should hire another person so you can serve the customers better. if they don't, the store is bound to lose some customers.

Oops, ouch!. I am also impatient. When I order in a fastfood restaurant, I expect it to be "fast". At times I really make faces just to make them feel, "Hurry up!!". But I guess in business, one needs to improve customer service all the times. A slow fast food is unthinkable, I guess.

Sometimes I can understand impatience. I get kind of impatient waiting in line at a store if I have my son with me. He starts getting out of hand. Yes, he needs to learn patience but he's 2 it's hard for him to sit still that long, so he starts getting where he wants down and he wants to run around and therefore I start to get a bit impatient. I have more patience when I have more time, but if I'm running on a time frame it is hard to be patient knowing I have other things I have to get done. When you have so much to do and little time to do it in it's easy to become impatient. I used to have more patience than I do now. I find it depends on the situation as to how much patience I have. I have patience when it comes to kids and learning new things, but when it comes to someone not doing their job and by this I mean someone genuinely not doing their job like standing around doing nothing, I start to become really impatient. I remember once being at a restaurant waiting on my server to come back so we could order dessert. She never came back and we saw her just standing around not doing anything in the back. My boyfriend finally went and spoke with the manager. It's just things like that, that get to me. I can be fairly patient though depending on the situation.

Imagine how impatient you will get waiting for a site to load that has already been loading for 10 seconds and you still haven't got a fully downloaded page yet... That is because we live in a age where everything must be done now not 10 minutes from now.. NOW!!! Consideration for other people these days - out the window.
