are you a model employee?

We hear a lot of people ranting about how they hate their job and their bosses every now and then but have we ever thought how good we are as an employee?
Our stinginess can prevent good things from coming our way. We always try to do only the amount of work that corresponds to the amount we are being paid and when we feel that we deserve better than what we are doing, we raise hell!
If we are going to examine it closely, we will somehow realize that it is us who is at the losing end of this kind of selfishness. We must also realize that employees and the company are one. If the company loses to make profits, we are losing as well. But if the company gains more then we also gain in the process.
For our employers to treat us with respect, let us show them that we truly deserve it--by being the best that we are!

Honestly, I'm a model employee sometimes!! but not most of the times! It is because I'm not happy anymore with my work.. I'm bored and want to quit.. But to be fair I'm doing my job perfectly because my obligation to the company has nothing to do with my personal problem..I can do my job still but the my passion with my work are all gone..I'm thinking of quitting but I have to fix something before I can leave my job.

@Katriona_22 I was fired because I didn't pass a scheme test. A test I was told that I could take over and over until I pass it.
As for the appeal, it wasn't possible to do that. Not with me being on probation at the time...

oh, that's sad then, but for what reason he fired you? you can make an appeal then if you know he's not right to do that.

You're right. Some people have somewhat forgotten that a company's success is dependent on the performance of employees. And if a company is earning, almost always it would somehow be given back to its employees either through bonuses, promotions or other fringe benefits. Being a model employee doesn't mean we're the best. It means we always do out best. We don't shortchange the company by being lazy or doing personal stuff using the company's resources and time.

I can't be a model employee. I enjoy maximum possible freedom and relax in my job time. Since I can do my jobs in pace and quality above average I get free time after completing jobs. Management prefer to utilize that time too doing some extra works. A model employee should do it. But I live NOT to do jobs, I do jobs to live.

Super agree with you! When employees are happy, they will work harder and will be very good to your company as well, and if most of the companies are like that the owner benefits from this too, right?
As for me, i work as much as i think i can. Afterall, when i do good, the company is good - i will have work for as long as i can i have. =)

I had a few reporting to me but I always wanted them to know that I call a spade a spade which was not quite palatable for some. At the same time they knew I was just.

I fully agree and respect your comment. If we justify our job I don't think that the company or the boss will not understand our contribution in the growth of the organization. It has to be give and take policy. We get something when we add something towards the revenue of the company. Nobody can pay from their pockets. So, at times we become skeptical about our job but if we keep our self at the position of the boss we understand how difficult it is. For me it is very important that I am doing justice with my job responsibility irrespective of personal problems with anyone around.

It is okay if we think that we just do exactly how much we are hired to do. You do your part of the deal and the boss pays you for doing that. But doing just enough in what you are doing won't make you getting pay raises or job promotions. Most employers look for workers who are willing to do more, apart from doing well in their job, to be promoted to higher positions. So if you want higher pay or better position, you must do more and take more responsibility.

I think I am sometimes a model employee. When I am at work,I really do my task completely and happy of what I am doing. Employee and employer needs to work one another to both have a success.

OK. Listen up. Nobody forced the employer to hire me. If I'm not doing the job nobody is forcing the employer to keep me on the job and pay me. The End.

IMHO, we all started our careers wanting to be the best that we are. We gave everything and expected nothing. But along the way, things started to disappoint us. We encounter horrible bosses. We encountered incompetent colleagues. We encountered tasks that don't make sense and ruined our sense of satisfaction. Yes, there are internal mechanisms that we can develop to cope but sometimes these things just chip away at us until they break through our armor. At that point, we cannot rationalise anymore. We just feel cheated and disappointed. It is at that point that we cannot bring ourselves to become "model employees" anymore. It is not always up to us. We are human, after all.

I believe we all try to do our best and if we make the effort rewards will be coming our way. I was a supervisor for a company that rewarded me with not only a nice check but other fringe benefits although I gave all the credit to my employees and I myself rewarded them with taking them out to eat at a nice restaurant one day and we had an extra half hour for this meal which everyone seemed to like. I believe in rewards for a job well done and for going above and beyond. Everyone was a winner that day.
